Trump to back ceding of Ukrainian territory to Russia as part of peace deal

Source: The Guardian

Details of post-summit call were leaked in which US president supports plan for Kyiv to give up Donbas region

Donald Trump will back a plan to cede unoccupied Ukrainian territory to Russia to secure an end to the war between the two countries, it was reported on Saturday, after details of his post-summit call with European leaders leaked out.

Trump told European leaders that he believed a peace deal could be negotiated if the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, agreed to give up the Donbas region, which Russian invaders have not been able to seize in over three years of fighting, the New York Times reported, citing to two senior European officials.

Two sources with direct knowledge of the talks in Alaska told the Guardian that Putin demanded Ukraine withdraw from Donbas, which is made up of the Donestk and Luhansk regions, as a condition for ending the war, but offered Trump a freeze along the remaining frontline.

Trump’s support for ceding Ukraine’s Donbas region, which is rich in mineral resources, including coal and iron ore, to Russia comes as he voiced support for moving straight to a peace deal and not via a ceasefire, which, Trump said in a social media post on Saturday, “often times do not hold up.”

US support for ceding the Donbas to Russia represents a breach with Ukraine and European allies that oppose such a deal.

MAGAns consider Trump to be some kind of business genius, but his genius, such as it is, is NOT in running businesses, but is merely in getting people to give him money to try and run businesses.

Why would anyone ever think that he feels like he owns it?

Other than he just wants it, like trump wants Canada and Greenland. I want the land next to our property, but that doesn't give me the right to just take it.

Its total bullshit that trump is, "negotiating," between these two nations. I hope Zelensky gives it a hard NO.

Russia could give a fuck about the territory to the north. They are trying to choke off Ukraine from the Black Sea. Once they do Ukraine is finished. They will threaten to fire rusty Nukes (probably will anyway if this theft goes through) at any ship heading to or from Ukraine in the Black Sea. The "amazing stupidity" of our current child king and his cronies that the handing of control of the Black Sea to Russia, which this will in effect do (Turkey will fall into lockstep with Pooty and restrict the straights) will result in WWIII is tantamount on the level of Chamberlin cutting deals with Hitler.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holodomor

The Holodomor,[a] also known as the Ukrainian famine, was a mass famine in Soviet Ukraine from 1932 to 1933 that killed millions of Ukrainians. The Holodomor was part of the wider Soviet famine of 1930–1933 which affected the major grain-producing areas of the Soviet Union.

While most scholars are in consensus that the main cause of the famine was largely man-made, it remains in dispute whether the Holodomor was intentional, whether it was directed at Ukrainians, and whether it constitutes a genocide, the point of contention being the absence of attested documents explicitly ordering the starvation of any area in the Soviet Union. Some historians conclude that the famine was deliberately engineered by Joseph Stalin to eliminate a Ukrainian independence movement. Others suggest that the famine was primarily the consequence of rapid Soviet industrialisation and collectivization of agriculture. A middle position is that the initial causes of the famine were an unintentional byproduct of the process of collectivization but once it set in, starvation was selectively weaponized, and the famine was "instrumentalized" and amplified against Ukrainians as a means to punish them for resisting Soviet policies and to suppress their nationalist sentiments.

centuries to stamp out the concept and eventual reality of an independent Ukraine. It is why Russia wants Zaporizhzhia so badly. Khortytsia Island, the stronghold of the Ukrainian Zaporizhian Cossacks is located there. These Cossacks were not only strong supporters of Ukrainian Independence, but some say the idea of an independent Ukraine started with them. Russia would love nothing more than to tear the heart out of Ukraine's glorious history.

Concerning the Donbas, this is where the Holodomor mostly happened. There are mass graves of Ukrainians there and handing the land and those graves to the Russians would be one of the biggest disgraces ever in so-called "international diplomacy."

This will be worse than Chamberlain's "peace in our time."

Trump would stab Zelenskyy in the back comes as no surprise, of course, and reward the war criminal Putin.

Trump is also messaging to his fellow despots and dictators that might makes right, that war criminals who lawlessly invade sovereign countries will likewise be rewarded for their criminal acts.
