Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says he will travel to Washington on August 18 to meet with US President Donald Trump to discuss ways to end the war in Ukraine. Zelenskyy made the announcement on Telegram on August 16 in a detailed statement following a lengthy, substantive conversation with Trump, during which Zelenskyy was updated on the August 15 summit between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
The Ukrainian president said he first had a one-on-one conversation with Trump before European leaders joined the call. I intend to discuss all details regarding ending the killings, ending the war, with President Trump in Washington on Monday. I am grateful for the invitation, Zelenskyy said.
He expressed strong support for Trumps proposal of a trilateral meeting involving Ukraine, the United States, and Russia as a forum to discuss key issues at the leadership level. He emphasized Ukraines readiness to work productively toward peace and underscored the importance of involving European partners at every stage to guarantee Ukraines security alongside the United States.
The highly anticipated summit between Trump and Putin ended without an agreement on a ceasefire in Ukraine, with neither leader taking questions from reporters during a brief news conference.

(33,157 posts)However, I'm sure the leader of the free world (Zelensky) knows that.
What it does is publicly out Trump as a Putin bitch
and toothless tiger.

(8,103 posts)And, since he already said he is grateful for the meeting, he can just say thanks, goodbye at the end.
I'm never going to forget how the Orange Pedo treated him. Never. It was shockingly embarrassing for my country to gang up on him like that.

(4,887 posts)is as dangerous for him as a meeting with Putin himself.
Putin has info on trump that would not only end his Presidency, but would certainly put him in prison. Trump will do whatever Putin demands.
Perhaps it is THOSE details that required a personal meeting in Alaska?

(7,872 posts)And, because of that, I questioned why it was being held. I have been posting consistently all year that conditions are not ripe on the ground in Ukraine for a ceasefire, calling into question why it was put together. Perhaps Trump thought it would solidify his chances for a Nobel Peace Prize, even in the event of assured failure. We are stuck where we are largely because Trump hasn't taken the necessary steps to change conditions on the ground, whereby one side is losing ground and in need of a peace deal before it is too late. It has been a wasted 6 months under Trump.

(4,762 posts)The last time Zelensky was in Washington the White House crowd attempted to humiliate him. I hope he has a plan to counter such undiplomatic actions.
