DC mayor says Trump takeover shows why US capital should be 51st state

Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser is advocating for the city to become the 51st state after President Donald Trump announced the federal government would take control of the local Metropolitan Police Department.

Bowser, who has been the city’s mayor since 2015, made the remarks during an appearance on Charlamagne Tha God’s radio show “The Breakfast Club” on Tuesday, Aug. 12.

“It’s times like this when America needs to know why your nation’s capital, a place where 700,000 tax-paying Americans live, should be the 51st state,” said Bowser on the radio show.

“[Trump] wants to send the message to cities that if he can get away with this in Los Angeles, if he can get away with this in DC, he can get away with it in New York, or Baltimore or Chicago, or any other place where millions of people live, work and are doing everything the right way.”

... if it shows why some possible policies, laws, guardrails, etc. that were thought to be unnecessary are a really good idea after all, and if-and-when Dems are ever again in power, they might be motivated to make the changes to prevent such damage coming from an authoritarian administration in the future.

We just need to get to the other side of this nightmare first.

It is not about doing nothing, its about the total lack of willingness to die and kill for what is right and just and the sacrifices with it. You can't be one or the other for that is not how total and unquestioned victory is achieved.

Last thing they want is two more Democratic senators in the body. And none of them, GOP or Democratic, want to give somebody else the dignity and status of being a Senator.

Puerto Rico the 52nd.

I was dismayed during Pres. Biden's term when some people here on DU(!) pooh pooh-ed the notion because of DC's small land mass.

My son and his family live in DC. The license plates read, accurately "Taxation without representation."

BTW, why are there 2 Dakotas?
