Key GOP Vote To Confirm RFK Jr. Now Calls His Vaccine Policies 'Unfortunate'

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) criticized Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.s decision to cancel a $500 million investment in lifesaving mRNA vaccine research aimed at protecting the U.S. against future viral threats.
It is unfortunate that the Secretary just canceled a half a billion worth of work, wasting the money which is already invested, Cassidy wrote in an online post on Wednesday following the HHS announcement. He has also conceded to China an important technology needed to combat cancer and infectious disease. President Trump wants to Make America Healthy Again and Make America Great Again. This works against both of President Trumps goals, the senator added.
Kennedy wouldnt be in Donald Trumps administration without Cassidys support for his confirmation earlier this year. The physician, who has served in the Senate since 2015, swallowed his concerns about RFK Jr.s long record of anti-vaccine views under pressure from Trumps MAGA supporters who have an eye on his reelection next year. Cassidy has worked hard to get back into Trumps good graces despite facing a GOP primary.
The Louisiana Republican, who serves as the chair of the Senate health committee, said in February that Kennedy assured him he would not dismantle the nations vaccine safety systems; the HHS secretary has moved to do exactly that.

RFK Jr's actions are immoral, unethical, and stupid. "Dr." Cassidy is complicit. I had high hopes that he would take the whole do no harm thing to heart and torpedo the nomination.

(10,312 posts)We told you not to vote for confirmation, but you stood on the Senate floor and mentioned everything wrong with RFK Jr. then still voted for confirming him.
You can go back to D.C. and kiss the @$$ of your only constituent, because you definitely didn't care about the citizens of Louisiana.

Other long-term heroin side effects may include:
●Insomnia.
●Infections of the heart lining and valves (in association with non-sterile needle use).
●Abscesses (in association with non-sterile needle use).
●Chronic and severe constipation.
●Increased risk of pneumonia and other lung complications.
●Co-occurring mental health issues, such as depression and antisocial personality disorder.
●Sexual dysfunction for men.
●Irregular menstrual cycles for women.
●Addiction, or heroin use disorder.
The method or route in which heroin is used can impart its own risks. For instance, individuals who inject heroin increase the likelihood of local tissue infection, more widespread vascular inflammation, and other cardiovascular risks. Additionally, some heroin contains particulate contaminants that can irritate and/or block the tiny vessels that deliver blood to the kidneys, liver, lungs, and brain, causing permanent damage to those organs.9

Also, Republicans are against big tort settlements unless they benefit personally (see Abbott, Greg). Ethics have been thrown by the wayside as far as I am concerned and Cassidy just showed this vividly. He KNEW RFK Jr. was an anti-vax quack and a long time heroin abuser and completely unqualified for the job.
