TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) Drones attacked a vessel carrying aid to Gaza while it was in international waters off Malta on Friday, the group organizing the shipment said. A fire broke out but was brought under control, according to authorities.
A nearby tugboat responded to a distress call from the Conscience, which was carrying 12 crew members and four civilians, Maltas government said, adding that those aboard refused to leave their ship. The group was safe and no injuries were reported, it said.
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition accused Israel of attacking its ship. It did not provide evidence of that or that the fire was caused by drones, but in a video it shared an explosion can be heard. Another video showed a fire blazing.
The Israeli army didnt respond to a request for comment.

That's a bit far for an Israeli drone operation.

Just think about the implications of that.

(12,090 posts)Anyone who is quick to jump in with a Pavlovian "but...Israel" response (including the members of the flotilla who made demands of Malta, the international community, "all states", civil society at large and unnamed legal authorities immediately after the "attack" they alleged that have yet to be investigated) are putting their credibility on the line.
There happens to be an American base in Italy (actually, there happen to be seven of them), ergo... Israel!
The non-connection is so absurd, it begs for imagining the non-implications, right?

(9,702 posts)BREAKING: Footage shows the humanitarian boat Conscience, part of the Freedom Flotilla to Gaza, bombed twice just 14 miles from Malta. The ship was unarmed, carrying civilians and aid. This is a blatant attack on a peaceful mission and on international law. Demand protection for the flotilla and an end to the siege on Gaza

(9,696 posts)"The bombing happened only hours later. There is no confirmation of a link between the Israeli military plane and what happened to the Flotilla.
However, the government said that it was not the case that any aircraft or vessel involved in this situation ever entered Maltese airspace or territorial waters.
Whilst reiterating the commitment to abide by all international treaties and legislation the country is obliged to follow, the committee clarifies that at no point in time, during the past 48 hours, any aircraft or vessel, currently mentioned in local and foreign media in relation to the case of the vessel Conscience, entered Maltese Sovereign Airspace or the Territorial sea (12 nautical miles from shore), the government said.
Therefore the territorial integrity of the Republic of Malta was never compromised at any stage, it added."
But of course, blood libel dictates that it must have been the Jews. Yeesh.

(9,696 posts). . . the "open air prison" trope. There you go. And yet the Gazans called it a paradise before they FAFO'd. Even now, restaurants are serving good food, markets are full of food, and those you call "monsters" (why not just say Jews?) are still imprisoned in terror tunnels. Poor Palestinians. They received many billions of dollars of aid money that went to enriching their "leaders" and building nearly 400 miles of terror tunnels. Weep tears for them. They chose their fate on Oct 7, and it didn't have to be that way. It was their choice. Did I mention that they instigated the war on Oct 7, and it was their choice: raping, burning, beheading, torturing, and kidnapping? But yeah, the Jews are the monsters. Yeesh, questioneverying, question your own assumptions.
As to the two months, please explore why that really is the case. It just might have to do that, whatever aid was allowed to enter Gaza was immediately taken by Hamas. Just might be.
Has anyone inspected the "flotilla". Just curious how many munitions were hidden in the hold. Or maybe not. Interesting that such an attack occurred and there was not a single injury, is it not? Not even a scratch! Yet with enough power to sink the boat? Were I into conspiracy theories, I might say "hmmmm." But I stoop that low.
What I can not understand is how and why so many ostensibly liberal good people have sided with jihadists and terrorists. I just don't get it at all.

to the chances of monsters getting blamed. How did you get from one to the other? In how many steps, and what are the chances of them all being connected?
Never mind your description of the monsters - that's a whole different story.

Attacking a peaceful vessel protected in international waters, in order to protect the heinous atrocities consequence of the war crime of starvation in Gaza, in order to forward the destructive conditions of life calculated to bring about the destruciton of a substantial part of the Palestinian national group in Gaza.
A crime to safeguard a war crime to advance the genocide.

Who is Dr. Luigi Daniel anyway, and why is he so adamant about using unconfirmed (according to all parties involved) allegations to tie them to debunked claims to peddle a false narrative?
