(CNN) — President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday directing the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to end federal funding for America’s two biggest public broadcasters, which have faced a series of attacks from the White House and Republican lawmakers accusing them of biased reporting.

The order instructs the CPB’s board to terminate direct funding for National Public Radio and the Public Broadcasting Service to the “maximum extent allowed by law and shall decline to provide future funding.” It also orders the board to take steps to “minimize or eliminate” indirect funding to NPR and PBS.

The executive order also directs Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to investigate NPR and PBS for possible employment discrimination, and it instructs the heads of all other federal agencies to “identify and terminate” any direct or indirect funding of the media organizations, as allowed by the law. … The order follows previous attacks on the public broadcasters by the Trump administration and prominent Republicans.

Each year, the CPB disperses $535 million in taxpayer funds to public radio and TV stations nationwide, stations provide free and universal access to educational shows, emergency alerts and a wide array of news and cultural content.

When Obama or Biden wrote one, the right-wing propaganda machine went ballistic. Their hypocrisy is beyond the absurd, but we all know that.

What exactly is the scope and limitations on writing executive orders? It's kind of hard to believe that Trump and the Republicans are not abusing and breaking the rules on this.

Other than a big criminal like Dump, why would anyone else be happy about this? Are all those people pictured nefarious? I would like someone to question each of those morons on camera. I sincerely hope that the foundations that support it can step up and cover some of the losses to keep it going. I wish I could pull back some tax dollars I send to the Dump administration and give it to PBS/NPR.

We live in Northern Virginia where we are served by NPR stations from DC, MD, and VA. We are long-time small donors to our VA PBS station.

Today we will sign up for monthly donations to every PBS/NPR station on our area and will increase all donations well over our current amount.

We r by no means well-off but this is democracy’s last stand.

I wrote our NPR station asking if there was a way to find out which NPR stations in the US had a greater need for support or were vulnerable. They replied that they had no record of such. Local stations buy from NPR and other sources to fill their roster.

So, if one wished to support furthering NPR in areas that have the greatest need they'd have to research the local station's financial status, percent of NPR programming and the number of hours they are able to broadcast NPR programming. It's not easy. Many NPR sources are funded and run by universities and one can assume they are fairly well supported, others are private. But I'd like to zero in on the most vulnerable stations to help expand or keep broadcasting NPR. I've done some research myself but I just don't know the details of how the system works. Questions come up like, "Which stations broadcast both left and right leaning material?" It gets muddled.

This morning, my station said that that NPR government support amounts to about 1%, but that there are smaller stations that could be adversely affected by that loss.

Maybe someone has some info on how to weed out such information so we might be able to lend support where it's needed most.

Just not dedicated to the Democratic Party, per se.

(Let me take this opportunity to say that Democratic is the name of the political party -- as in the Democratic Party.
The members are called Democrats as in "What an opportunity for DEMOCRATS to have our own tv and radio channel." )

The Meidas Network, The Thom Hartmann Report, The Guardian America, Wired, and Techdirt are all consistent democratic news sources for Democrats.
So is MSNBC at night. At this point one can even call NPR and PBS democratic news sources, or the felon wouldn't have issued an anti-press E.O.

Also PBS doesn't have a paywall and it's free and easily available to those less well off or don't have a computer.
Faux news has no paywall, free on tv and everyone has one of these,
And PBS won/t have to kiss up to get their funding anymore, thus maybe the democratic party could take their place?
Also many of the seemingly democratic hosts on your stations are ex - republicans. Will they still talk up Dems in the future?
