The Peace Corps is offering staff a second fork in the road buyout, according to a source familiar with the matter. Allison Greene, the chief executive of Peace Corps, sent an email to staff on Monday with an update about the department of government efficiency (Doge) assessment of the agency.
Greene said to expect significant restructuring efforts at Peace Corps headquarters, according to the email seen by the Guardian. Starting on 28 April and going through 6 May, direct hire and expert staff are being offered a second deferred resignation program, what Elon Musks Doge has referred to as a fork in the road buyout. Greene referred to this offer as DRP 2.0.
Eligible staff will hear from human resources and are strongly encouraged to consider this option, Greene wrote. The offer applies to employees both domestically and overseas. Peace Corps will continue to recruit, place, and train volunteers, Greene said, indicating that the cuts are specifically for agency staff and will not affect volunteers.
A Peace Corps spokesperson confirmed that Doge began the cuts on Monday. The agency will remain operational and continue to recruit, place, and train volunteers, while continuing to support their health, safety and security, and effective service, the spokesperson said.

(72,393 posts)volunteers can run themselves, sure.
bright side- sounds like they figured out slashing americorp, which is also mostly volunteers, was stupid.
i posted this on fb, w a share of alt national park services post about americorp cuts-
but also cuz its just insane to fire volunteers. at the time, he got a little under $5k for college. they get a small stipend and a bus pass.
for that, he tutored kids and ran afterschool activities in a charter school in bronzeville. he was great at it, and the kids adored him.
hes pretty tall, and those little bugs looking up to him is something that will probably always stick w him.
on mlk day they painted all the walls in a homeless shelter. i dont remember all the other stuff they did.
they drilled leadership skills into them. they learned kindness and compassion.
so, efficiency-wise, it doesnt get any better than that.
but sure, take a chainsaw to it.
we cd have paid for his college, but he stubbornly refused our help. he went to a city college for 2 yrs, then uic. he graduated 1st in his class. hes very smart, but he rly struggled in school. he went on to get a full boat for his ms and phd in math.
i think of all the kids who didnt have anyone to fall back on, like he did.
its also not completely fed funded. they raise their own money from corporate sponsors and alums.
i hope someone w deep pockets steps up. its bill clintons baby, so hopefully he will step in.
maybe thats y it caught their attention.
this is just a new definition of stupid.
i have a few friends who were in the peacecorp. the same can b said of that program. not just stupid for the work they do, but stupid for not seeing where ppl take that experience in future.
or maybe they do
