Fort Deposit Town Council finalizes special election plans

The Fort Deposit Town Council met for a brief, third special-called meeting Wednesday, Oct. 29, to finalize plans for a Jan. 13 special-called meeting. After approving minutes from the Oct. 21 council members approved a resolution establishing poll workers.

Darrell Heartsill offered the resolution, which named special election chief inspector as Peter Hieble, the clerk 1 as Max Conway, clerk 2 as Irish Simmons and clerk 3 as Latasha Simmons Hardy. The motion committed the town to pay for training and certification of the officials.

Discussion followed Heartsill's motion and some questioned who had input in choosing those named.

"In a previous meeting, it was stated... that you will get someone outside the county," Boone said. "You did not want anyone inside the county."
