'Every vote counts': Mike Myers wins election to Alabaster Ward 1 by a single vote Read more at: https://www.shelbycou

ALABASTER – The room was heavy as the Alabaster City Council canvassed the results of the Alabaster Ward 1 runoff in one of Shelby County’s most unprecedented elections ever. As the votes were tallied, candidate Mike Myers was announced as the winner by a single vote.

Myers has officially been elected as the next Alabaster City Council member for Ward 1 after successfully winning the runoff, which was held on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

“It’s an emotional time,” Myers said after learning of the results. “I just want to thank everybody that put this important trust in me. I look forward to serving Alabaster Ward 1.”

During the runoff election, Myers faced off against resident Gerry J. Bivins for the seat on the City Council. Myers received 261 votes and Bivins received 259; however, three remaining provisional votes needed to be confirmed by the Shelby County Board of Registrars before the election could be called.
