On This 4th of July.....

As we experience America's 250th year, we contemplate our nation's history. Much of our attention is rightly focused on the events of 1776 and the Revolution. It would be wise also to remember a much earlier event that had a profound influence on the nation that emerged 250 years ago, and that is especially relevant today.

In 1215, the Magna Carta established foundational principles of English law, from which our American system is largely derived. Among other things, it enshrined Due Process, the right to a fair trial, habeas corpus, and the concept that no one was above the law. It arose in response to the king's abuse of power.

We are now experiencing the opposite - a "MAGA Carta" which enables and supports an abusive "king" who systematically ignores and destroys the rights we hold dear and that define us as a nation. We must demand that the rule of law be restored and that new measures be put in place to prevent a recurrence of this political abomination. On this 250th Anniversary of our founding, let us dedicate our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor to bring this about.
