Guardian on Democratic establishment reaction to the primaries

Sorry if this article was already shared.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jun/29/centrist-democrats-democratic-socialists-backlash?

...The DSA has endorsed about 150 candidates this cycle, according to an analysis by the Washington Examiner, with 35 either winning primaries or advancing without opposition, in races stretching across Oregon, California, Georgia, Pennsylvania and New York.

Rahm Emanuel, the former Chicago mayor and White House chief of staff, offered a structural diagnosis. “What the socialist wing has decided to do is turn blue districts, dark blue,” he told CNN, arguing that Democrats had broadly “lost the plot” by becoming mired in niche concerns rather than mainstream US priorities.

Former New York governor David Paterson warned on 77 WABC radio that the party risked something more fundamental than an electoral setback. “We’d better get that message and turn it around before we become extinct,” he said.

On the organizational front, a group of House Democrats aligned with a new centrist initiative, launched in the immediate aftermath of the democratic socialist victories, framed the wins as a reputational liability. “They should not be the face of our party,” the group declared, positioning the effort explicitly as a corrective to the party’s direction...

that has never changed.

The magas are louder and more aggressive with the hatred , racism, white superiority plus unfortunately they control all three branches and the media.

But alas, the American people hopefully see the GQP evil ways by using religion and make up shit they consider laws and regulations with the help of the 6RW justices on the UC SC.

2. Why is OUR side using the word "socialism" as a scare tactic?

The word scares (ignorant) people and the last thing WE need to do is to feed into that. Find another word for “Democratic Socialism”. Call
it the “Fairness Economy.”

tactic Republicans have been using for 100 years. It's time to embrace the word, after all it represents public power.

I can't stand that guy, and it is from years of observation. He came up thru the Clinton WH, IIRC. His attitude has always seemed to have been as far to the right as he could get and still.label himself a Democrat. He's also arrogant and rude, IMO.

The fact that Emmanuel, Gottheimer and the other centrists are panicked tells me we are on the right track.

As a Progressive.......Liberal.............

the word Socialism is most welcome and has always been. I prefer Socialism anytime over communism, fascism, dictatorship.

With shithole, the Republican party and the 6 assholes in the US SC, those three words communism, fascism and dictatorship is where we are at the present time. The hatred and racism and voided rights and freedom is the GQP motto.

My guess is, once we are safely in the post-Trump era, many of those centrists will change parties.

Maybe instead of doing like repukes and clutching your pearls, you should do a deep dive to figure out why these candidates are resonating with voters and you are not. Maybe because ordinary Dems see you as out of touch appeasers, who keep trying to work with a party that is destroying America? Ordinary Dems maybe see some of you as sponsored by corporate interests? How many centrist Dems have voted with repukes for things that your own voters told you not to vote for?
How about embracing this turn that has been a long time coming?
