We wanted to amplify this because it’s genuinely sad that this isn’t how America’s 250th birthday is unfolding. America’s 250th birthday should have been about bringing people together through our shared culture, history, music, art, and traditions.

It should have been a celebration that reminded us of everything that connects us as a nation a moment to showcase the incredible diversity and creativity of the American people. That would have been a celebration worthy of this historic milestone.

and boy, are we (the people) missing out.

I have some young memories of the bicentennial and what a big deal it was for the country with celebrations all over the place.

this time 50 years later, barely a whisper.

He has to be the center of attention, the star of the show. I keep waiting for this "star" to burn out.

Like a world fair. There is so much great talent, foods, dance, music and American culture we could have displayed and celebrated.

Instead we get this crappy little disorganized, religiously sponsored sideshow. (They were baptizing Christians at a tent like it was a Christian revival.)

I just think about all the amazing Appalachian crafts and skills that could have been seen by all Americans, the native American arts and talents that could have been showcased, I could go on and on.

But no instead we get a mismanaged little political event that doesn't even provide chairs or benches. It's a disgrace and an insult to the United States.

Honestly? I wanted to vomit. How ANYONE can even think of celebrating is beyond me. We've already had some idiots popping fireworks, and I can only imagine what the night of the 4th will be like.

It's not status quo - hot dogs, baseball, apple pie and Chevrolet in my thinking. It's a fight for our very existence, and I will "celebrate" accordingly by avoiding anything related.

We lived in Fairfield, Connecticut, a town burned by the British during the Revolution. There was a re-enactment of the event with people dressed in period costume. They even shot a cannon off during a huge parade. My kids loved it. Special songs were written. We all had a wonderful time and learned a lot about our American Heritage.
