He'll make it all about him. So have the small celebrations. Fuck that guy.

Imagine all this on the heels of the World Cup... what a loss.

(40,544 posts)We wanted to amplify this because itâs genuinely sad that this isnât how Americaâs 250th birthday is unfolding. Americaâs 250th birthday should have been about bringing people together through our shared culture, history, music, art, and traditions.

It should have been a celebration that reminded us of everything that connects us as a nation a moment to showcase the incredible diversity and creativity of the American people. That would have been a celebration worthy of this historic milestone.

(2,884 posts)and boy, are we (the people) missing out.
I have some young memories of the bicentennial and what a big deal it was for the country with celebrations all over the place.
this time 50 years later, barely a whisper.

(12,872 posts)Like a world fair. There is so much great talent, foods, dance, music and American culture we could have displayed and celebrated.
Instead we get this crappy little disorganized, religiously sponsored sideshow. (They were baptizing Christians at a tent like it was a Christian revival.)
I just think about all the amazing Appalachian crafts and skills that could have been seen by all Americans, the native American arts and talents that could have been showcased, I could go on and on.
But no instead we get a mismanaged little political event that doesn't even provide chairs or benches. It's a disgrace and an insult to the United States.

(17,977 posts)Honestly? I wanted to vomit. How ANYONE can even think of celebrating is beyond me. We've already had some idiots popping fireworks, and I can only imagine what the night of the 4th will be like.
It's not status quo - hot dogs, baseball, apple pie and Chevrolet in my thinking. It's a fight for our very existence, and I will "celebrate" accordingly by avoiding anything related.

(1,537 posts)We lived in Fairfield, Connecticut, a town burned by the British during the Revolution. There was a re-enactment of the event with people dressed in period costume. They even shot a cannon off during a huge parade. My kids loved it. Special songs were written. We all had a wonderful time and learned a lot about our American Heritage.
