RI-GOV: Local Dems endorsement count has Foulkes leading 12-2

Add Providence, Warwick, Cranston and Woonsocket to the growing list of municipal Democratic committees backing Helena Buonanno Foulkes in the 2026 gubernatorial primary.

Endorsement votes taken by all four city committees in separate, simultaneous meetings Wednesday night put Foulkes’ tally of support among local party groups at 12, including McKee’s native Cumberland.

“Too many Rhode Islanders feel like our government just isn’t working for them anymore,” Foulkes said in a statement Wednesday night. “I’m going to work every day as governor to create opportunities for Rhode Islanders and ensure our state lives up to its promise.”

Gov. Dan McKee has been endorsed by two municipal party committees: Pawtucket and North Providence. Sophie Mestas, a spokesperson for McKee’s campaign, declined to comment on Wednesday night’s endorsements from the four major city committees.
