By Humeyra Pamuk and Kanishka Singh
WASHINGTON, June 24 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday it may never be known who was at fault for a deadly strike on a girls' school in Iran on February 28, the first day of the Iran war, that killed scores of children.
Reuters first reported in March that an initial internal U.S. military investigation showed U.S. forces were likely responsible for the fatal strike in Minab in southern Iran. The Pentagon has since elevated the probe but it has not acknowledged any preliminary findings.
"I don't know that they are ever going to solve that problem," Trump told reporters.
"I don't know that they are ever going to solve that problem in terms of whose fault was it because there were missiles flying all over the place, and it's horrible what happened but there were missiles flying all over the place," he said.

(25,505 posts)The number of Pentagon employees who focus on mitigating civilian casualties has dropped from 200 people to less than 40.
By PAUL MCLEARY and JACK DETSCH
Politico, 03/10/2026
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has gutted the Pentagon oversight offices that would have investigated the recent strike on an Iranian girls school a move that has degraded Americas ability to protect civilians amid its largest air campaign in decades.
The Pentagon chief last year slashed offices that didnt contribute to his goal of lethality, including the group that assists in limiting risk to civilians, known as the Civilian Protection Center of Excellence. Around 200 employees who worked on the issue, including at that office, have been reduced by about 90 percent, according to two current and former officials and a person familiar with the effort. The team that handles civilian casualties at Central Command, which oversees the Middle East, has dropped from 10 to one.
Hegseth cant close the offices because they are approved by Congress. But he has managed to make them nearly inoperable, according to the people, as the Pentagon investigates its responsibility in what could be the worst U.S.-led killing of civilians since 2003. Iranian state media said the strike killed about 170 children and 14 teachers.
The fact that our secretary of Defense, that our Central Command commander, cannot actually tell us whether or not they dropped a bomb in this location, that is so unbelievably unacceptable, said Wes Bryant, the Pentagons former chief of civilian harm assessments until last year. It just points even more to recklessness in this, in the entire planning and execution of this campaign, the fact that they dont have any idea.

THE PITFALLS OF PEACE
The Lack of Major Wars May Be Hurting Economic Growth
by Tyler Cowen, PhD
Opinion in New York Times, June 13, 2014
The continuing slowness of economic growth in high-income economies has prompted soul-searching among economists. They have looked to weak demand, rising inequality, Chinese competition, over-regulation, inadequate infrastructure and an exhaustion of new technological ideas as possible culprits.
An additional explanation of slow growth is now receiving attention, however. It is the persistence and expectation of peace.
The world just hasnt had that much warfare lately, at least not by historical standards. Some of the recent headlines about Iraq or South Sudan make our world sound like a very bloody place, but todays casualties pale in light of the tens of millions of people killed in the two world wars in the first half of the 20th century. Even the Vietnam War had many more deaths than any recent war involving an affluent country.
Counterintuitive though it may sound, the greater peacefulness of the world may make the attainment of higher rates of economic growth less urgent and thus less likely. This view does not claim that fighting wars improves economies, as of course the actual conflict brings death and destruction. The claim is also distinct from the Keynesian argument that preparing for war lifts government spending and puts people to work. Rather, the very possibility of war focuses the attention of governments on getting some basic decisions right whether investing in science or simply liberalizing the economy. Such focus ends up improving a nations longer-run prospects.

I agree with Trump. We will never solve that problem, as long as congress can't subpoena the intel and military leaders to appear before fcommittees under oath.

It's an old intelligence trick. Look over there - squirrel! AI provides them deniability of intent. How fucking convenient. Too convenient. They're more than happy to play the negligent incompetent using AI for targeting, if it saves their asses. Better to be thought incompetent than a rank murderer. I DON'T BUY THE GROK STORY.

(1,400 posts)not buying what you are selling. There was no reason to attack Iran. There were negotiations going on and in fact they had reached an agreement so said the chief negotiator on television networks right before the attack. But we attacked anyway And if you remember correctly, at the very beginning of the attacks Trump was bragging about how he was gonna pick their new leader and take all the oil.
