Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana plans to make Social Security reform a priority in his last months in office, he tells CNBC.com.
Cassidy, who lost a May primary for reelection, said he will continue to push for his big idea fix to help fund Social Securitys shortfall by creating a separate fund that would invest in stocks on the programs behalf.
Social Securitys trustees now project the trust fund that helps pay retirement benefits may run out in late 2032, when 78% of those benefits would be payable.
The longer you wait, the harder it is to fix, the more painful to fix, Cassidy said. We need to do something now.

He wants to invest your money into the stock market.
No...
How about making the billionaires and trillionaire pay their fair share instead Mr Cassidy ?

(13,332 posts)Forget the 2008 housing crash that cratered all the 401ks. Those retirees and retirees to be DID NOT get that back. But we sure as hell baled out the corporations.
That is what will happen to our trust fund.💥🔥💰💰. When it is gone, instantly millions of people that worked their lives and paid taxes, will be totally broke. And that 2.5+ trillion trust fund will find its way to the Musks of the world. And the way the markets are being fucked with right now with these thieve are not to help working people hoping to retire someday. The Cassidys of the country are not at all
Concerned about retirement and health care, paid from tax revenue.
Will Cassidy give up his retirement and Health care tax payers fund? I know, a fucking stupid question.
The longer we wait to end GQP forever, the more painful the fix.
Go ahead Billy, fuck us over, while you grab your cut of the fund, we will have some pain to bring you.
We may as well give it to Trump to invest in a trump casino. Damn I hate these greedy muther Fuckers.
No let me correct that, they actually fuck the baby girls of mothers.

what if it crashed right at retirement. What does the retiree live on until it recovers.
By its name, Social Security offers security, which is not guaranteed by the whims of the stock market.

(8,213 posts)Why doesn't he grab all of the money we've pumped into Farmers, All State, State Farm, etc? Oh... but that would *hurt* those corporations! Better to just grab the money at the source - 80 year old retirees. Problem is, cat food has gotten so expensive, we couldn't even afford to live on it now!

(35,082 posts)These asshole Republicans have been wanting to get their grubby hands on the Social Security trust funds for as long as it has existed. And, this whole investing it in the stock market is nothing new, either. They tried that shit under Dumbya, as well. They used the "running out of money" as an excuse back then, too. It's all the more reason we need to vote these fuckers out in November. Once and for all, the Dems need to remove the payroll cap on both SS and Medicare.
