He has come a rugged path in his life -- not that different from Bob Kennedy. But unlike Bob, Hunter is emerging as an improved person. I welcome his voice. He was a vehicle for great damage to our country. Now that he has a solid public voice, I hope this will cause some people to re-examine why they were so angry about Hunter in the past.

The American story is one of redemption, at least for most of us. Most of us do not believe that any noble goal is served when government executes criminals, even the worst among us. While we may not expect redemption from a serial rapist or murderer or sex trafficker, most of us do believe in humane treatment, and the hope that some measure of redemption is possible.

Hunter is on a remarkable path and I hope he continues speak, not as a political partisan, but as an advocate for decency , democracy, and doing the right things.
