(4,179 posts)Let's say you take the low estimate of $114 million and inflation adjust about 3 percent per year that puts it at about $125 million minimum. 4% of that is a $5 million tax bill for mango. That would fund a lot of good services for the people of New York.

(2,718 posts)He grifts more than that every hour, of every day, etc, etc
And, if he doesn't have to worry about the IRS, think of the opportunities THAT
opens up........and the humongous bonus that gives him!!!!!! He won't have to pay all of his high priced tax accountants, and his high priced tax lawyers...........
Let it be known, that the wealthy and uber wealthy deeply resent that they have to hire and pay the expense of their tax accountants and tax lawyers.........They have always been proponents of the Flat Tax or Value Added Tax. Not only because it is an extremely regressive sales tax, but because they won't have to pay the tax accountants and tax lawyers.....
These wealthy and Uber Rich Oligarchs always point to other countries that have the VAT instead of income tax and that it works for them, why shouldn't we have the same tax base.......(Of course they neglect telling our taxpayers that those other countries use their VAT tax to fund FREE school and college, as well as Free health care for everyone, as well as many other public programs......)

(53,462 posts)They are the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, The Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, and Monaco.
What they're not telling you is those countries tax the living crap out of you in other ways. For instance, Saudi Arabia taxes the oil industry like you wouldn't believe. If you are a non-oil corporation your corporate tax rate is 20 percent. The oil industry is taxed based on the size of their businesses - from 50 percent to 85 percent. They also charge royalties on the oil pumped, and those royalties are based on the price of oil. With taxes like that they probably wouldn't need VAT. Monaco squeezes the crap out of their businesses, The Bahamas squeezes the tourists dry...
Bermuda has an income tax they call a payroll tax. Bermuda also has Land Tax, which you pay to the government even if you're a renter. They also have really high import duties, and nothing is exempt. They ALSO squeeze tourists dry.

(42,693 posts)But my impression is that she prefers the Bedminster NJ property, which is more than just a golf resort.
Barron may be living at Trump Tower in New York if he's still enrolled at New York University. However - I can't seem to find a reference for it - but I read last year that he was taking time off from school while his Dad was back in the White House. If that's true, then it's very possible that Barron and Melania are spending more time in Washington DC than in New York or New Jersey.
Barron is still under 21 so his mother is very protective of his privacy. Another thing to keep is mind is that even though her mother passed away in 2024, Melania's dad Viktor is still living and he's very much a part of their lives. Viktor may have taken residence in the Bedminster NJ property also, in order to stay closer to Melania and Barron.

(42,693 posts)Yes he was out of Riker's a couple years ago. The guy is well past retirement, and he's permanently banned from working in financial jobs anyway, due to his convictions.
