Those highly visible characteristics are NOT an act. He has a deep seated need to be recognized as a "stable genius" and he brags about passing cognitive tests.

He will NOT plead insanity to escape accountability for his crimes. He's gotten away with so much already, he likely believes he is above the law. The Supreme Court reinforced that belief by granting him immunity from prosecution for anything he did as president.

He appears to be losing inhibitions and going backwards in time.
I think the republicans do not believe they can hold together without him and at present have no usable plan B.
They all look smell like fear and desperation.
He would be hard to control, direct or instruct on any day of his life. He must be exhausting now.
