General Discussion

During the entire half-hour commercial-free interview on All In With Chris Hayes, not once did he ask for any donations, that's quite astounding. He seems fairly open and honest about a very difficult time in his life. I'm a big proponent of replacing the congressional establishment with normal people that their constituents can actually relate to. I wish Platner luck against Susan Collins...
If you're from Maine, please share your impression of Platner and the general consensus with others in Maine.

The funny thing with the comment that people can relate to him due to class is that many saying that don't say that of Hillary Clinton who was born and raised in a middle class family.
It also seems to be used now to excuse a multitude of messy problems. It's possible they stem from his time in the military, but it works better when the inappropriate actions were a long time ago.
The best argument for him now is that it is too late to back another nominee other than Mills. Consider they would start further behind than Harris, who was well known, did in 2024.

We are voting for people to get us out of the mess we're in, not someone to be our friend or to entertain us.

(1,124 posts)I want to get back to the times when our congressional representatives worked together and were actually able to compromise.
Back to WE THE PEOPLE, versus just doing whatever the President wants, ESPECIALLY when those interests are opposite of what the people want.
It's clear that major changes to the Constitution are necessary, and a few I can think of are...
Term Limits: Senate - 3 terms / 18 years; House - 9 terms / 18 years; Supreme Court NTE 25 years, mandatory retirement at age 72;
Accepting bribes should have immediate and permanent consequences - expulsion from Congress or the Supreme Court, as applicable.
States can recall elected officials, but United States Representatives & Senators are immune. Changes are needed to allow recalls for Dereliction of Duty. If US Representatives & Senators know the people of their respective states can "fire" them, perhaps they'll be more conscious of their responsibilities!
US President & Vice President: Impeachment hasn't been effective within Congress. Impeachment needs to be easier to curtail another king wannabe. Ideas??
Eliminate the electoral vote. It's unfair that a handful of states basically determine the outcome of the election. The popular vote should replace the outdated electoral vote.
Does anyone have other or contradictory ideas?

(396 posts)And Graham Platner seemed to be very relaxed with a comfortable and an exceptionally calm demeanor.
He displayed high confidence but most notably he didn't show any hesitation while answering Chris Hayes's questions.
As I mentioned earlier, Graham Platner's truthfulness was very appealing and
refreshing.
Furthermore, that's my unassuming observation based on my own experience as a former DOJ agent.
