Trump's humiliation of Netanyahu marks a sea change in the US-Israel relationship

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s carefully cultivated image as a master of geopolitics is on life support after reports that President Donald Trump on Monday cursed and mocked him in a phone call, calling him “f- – – ing crazy” and ordering him to stand down in Lebanon.

In response, Netanyahu’s opponents and even some of his former allies are accusing him of mortgaging Israel’s sovereignty and reducing the country to strategic dependence on Washington. They’re right. Trump is treating Netanyahu less like the leader of a sovereign ally and more like a subordinate expected to obey instructions.

As a result, Israel suddenly looks less like an independent regional power and more like an American client state.

Not a good client, but a client none the less. But Bibi has worked hard to alienate the American public whose support the state of Israel desperately needs.

Netanyahu will continue to play Trump like a fiddle and was not humiliated at all by Lil Donnie's temper tantrum.

At least, according to what I've read in various places, including here on DU.

No, I'm not going to bother going through DU posts to find examples. I've seen that stated here.

Epstein didn’t work for Israel? Bibi isn’t holding kompromat to manipulate Shithole?

All the facts and reasonable implications are against you on this, friend.

Perhaps under the next administration. It won't under this one.

I'm sure such a search would prove that the charges of Israeli control are nonsense, but I'd love to see what other nastiness they did turn up.

which nobody will accept, so he's stuck.

One thing Trump can do is read social media comments and feel. It's trending 95%+ against Netanyahu.

As it once said in a book, "nothing's so embarrassing as when things go wrong in a war."

This is all performative bullshit.

A lot of the right wingers are split on Israel and the actions in Iran, calling him a puppet of Bibi and all that. He has to show them he’s in charge.

Also, it lets him blame Israel for his inability to make a deal to get out of this idiotic war they started.

Something like this doesn’t get leaked unless they want it to.

Meanwhile, the strikes in Lebanon continue unabated and the grift goes on.

Lies, lies and more lies.
