TX-33: Allred defeats Johnson in Texas Democratic House primary runoff
Former Rep. Colin Allred (D-Texas) is projected to defeat Rep. Julie Johnson (D-Texas) in the Democratic primary runoff for Texass newly drawn 33rd Congressional District, according to Decision Desk HQ.
Johnson succeeded Allred last cycle after the former lawmaker vacated his seat to run against Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). He went on to lose to Cruz in 2024 and launched a 2026 bid against Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), but dropped to run for the House seat in this awkward matchup.
Neither candidate secured over 50 percent in the initial March 3 primary, stretching their fight out by nearly three months.
As they jostled for the runoff win, Allred blasted Johnson for her stock trades while in Congress, while Johnson criticized Allreds votes in Congress, accusing him of flip-flopping on support for the administrations immigration actions.
