(17,786 posts)Honest question. I am not sure that Talarico's chances went up, but I hope to hell you are right. I'd agree with you anywhere but Texas.
I think Talarico is incredible and I cannot imagine anyone who sits in church on Sunday NOT thinking he's terrific, too. But the Evangelicals have already started the "he's a fake" campaign and they are spending a helluva lot of money.
Talarico is going to need to fight this shit head on, and I believe he is the man who can do it. But I refuse to get my hopes up and have them dashed. I'm gonna hope for the best and expect the worst until he's sworn in.

(17,786 posts)Texas is MAGA central. We have a bunch of absolutely DUMB idiots down here who will crawl on their bellies with their mouth breathing lungs hanging out to vote AGAINST someone who they have been made to believe thinks there are six sexes. They are being led to believe that Talarico has said that God is nonbinary (heaven forbid!!!!) and that he's (gasp!!!) a vegan.
The secret is going to be to convince all of Cornyn's supporters that Paxton is evil and Talarico is the only way to go. Again, I am hopeful and will be doing what I can to convince the Cornyn supporters that I know. But Texas does not go the way text books think it should. It is a special case and those of us who have lived the despair and let down and dashed hopes have learned not to count our proverbial chickens until they hatch.
Thanks for the exchange, welcome to DU, and have a great evening!!!

(17,246 posts)taking it all! The race will be a mudsling, but in general I think Texans are tired. Including the most republicans.
We will see!

(480 posts)Talarico polls better against Paxton.
Also, nobody seems to be talking about Trump losing his Senate majority for all intents and purposes tonight. With Kennedy and Cornyn and 2 of his 52 votes he essentially doesn't have the votes to do anything now.

(16,447 posts)The repubs nominated another grifter whose moral compass has been missing for years. So many scandals to look at any one should have knocked him to the ditch years ago.
Then again, I thought it was good news when they nominated trumpf to run against Clinton. You just never know what the propaganda, the rubes and the russian interference will bring us.

(30,000 posts)Based on the national mood of the electorate. The nation is angry with the President and usually if that's the case the opposing party does well in the midterms. I think it will be worse for Republicans than it was in 2018 but it will be like that but people are more angry than before.
I mostly worry about Texas GOP voter suppression as that can affect close races in Texas.

(415 posts)Lets be real about Texas and what theyre all about. Paxton is slightly easier to beat than John but this is the same state that keeps electing scum like Abbot and Ted. They vote R no matter what. James will need to shore up the Black vote and hope that all of his Hispanic and White supporters not only show up but also encourage their Republican family members and friends to either stay at home, vote third party or vote for James.

(7,202 posts)We must get turnout, that's the key. There aren't more Republicans than Democrats in Texas, the Democrats have just not been turning out for a while. They need to now.
