The GOP won't be "OVER" Trump until "AFTER" the Midterms, if at all. The idea that he "pushed them too far" is bullshit. All I can hear is them saying "PLEASE, SIR, MAY I HAVE ANOTHER?"The current mindset of Trump, (Chris) Hayes argued, is one of two things. "Either he's term-limited out, in which case, like he doesn't care. What does he care? He wants to build his arch. He wants his, like, ballroom. He wants to make his money. Or the way he's going to stay in power is through extrademocratic and extraconstitutional means. In either case, he doesn't care about the median voter ... but the people that do have to care about the median voter are the people that sit in Capitol Hill, as we saw them melting down."
"No, no, absolutely," agreed Ramirez. "And I think there was the dual insult of the request for funding for the ballroom. And then on top of that, the White House is just demanding that they authorize almost $2 billion in spending"
"Didn't even demand they authorize, just authorized, just to be clear!" cut in Hayes.
"You are correct. Yes," said Ramirez. "But for people who tried to kill them, yes. And just ask them to rubber-stamp it. And I think you saw even in John Thune's face, he is so over it. He is done with this."

(24,154 posts)Youve got a significant number primaried out who dont GAF anymore about what Trump says about them, and youve a significant number of incumbents terrified of the bloodbath coming in November, and they see the ballroom and slush fund money as as two things that would add tremendously to their vulnerability.
And then youve got the rest , smug and cocky that their seats are safe, and those who are still terrified of Trump more than the voters.
I guess well know for sure if, when they, come back from their break, they pass both the ballroom and the slush fund.

I also saw something earlier today about Mike Johnson being "fed up" with Trump, and why not?
Remember this photo, McCarthy's face when he first appeared in the House holding the Speaker's gavel?

He sacrificed every last shred of his pride and dignity (assuming he had any to begin with) as Gaetz and others put him through the wringers.
FIFTEEN ROUNDS OF VOTING, ultimately all for nothing. And MAGAt Moses Mikey walked into that seat, and while he's experiencing a different form of pain, I'd say chances are slim that he'll still be speaker after the midterms.
It's like Trump voters saying he's screwed them, but they'd still vote for him again if they could.
Congressional Republicans are no different. If I'm wrong, if the tide is ACTUALLY turning, I'll be the first to admit it when i see the evidence.

(24,409 posts)The liver is the deadliest of deadly poisons. Only skilled "master sushi chefs" can prepare blowfish in a way that won't kill diners.
In Japan, there are "thrill seekers" who do things like touch the tip of their tongue to a piece of blowfish liver (it reportedly stings like a mo-fo, thus providing the thrill).
And, some get a little carried away and end up on a slab in the morgue.
That's my metaphor for what Republicans are doing right now. I agree with you 100% ... "they are certain the ballroom, the war and the slush fund will weaken their odds in the midterms..." And I honestly believe that in the face of all of that, they are STILL running down the list of "WHAT IF's."
Because if they weren't, they would have told Grampy to ram it where the sun doesn't shine BEFORE going on recess.
They're kicking the can down the road. I go back to my original point. They're getting increasingly agitated, but no one of any significance is going to jump ship in the next month.
Trump "demanded" that this should all happen before June 1. That's their first day back. It won't happen on June 1. And Grampy will rage-tweet between now and then, and make "primary" threats to the "RINO's," and then we'll see if they're ready to sign the divorce papers.
