2 in custody after multiple 'random' Austin shootings; police searching for 3rd suspect
Police said the suspects have carried out up to 10 attacks, injuring as many as four people.
AUSTIN, Texas Two suspects have been arrested and the search continues for a third in connection with multiple shootings across Austin on Saturday and Sunday.
The suspects carried out up to 12 random shootings between Saturday afternoon and Sunday, injuring four people, according Austin Police Department Chief Lisa Davis. One victim sustained serious injuries and is in critical condition, and the other three have minor injuries.
According to Davis, the suspects have been identified as a 17-year-old male and a 15-year-old male. The 17-year-old suspect had a previous warrant for theft of a gun and the 15-year-old is believed to have stolen a gun from the same location on Saturday. The duo is accused of stealing four vehicles over the course of the entire incident.
According to police, there is no specific motive to the shootings, and they appear to be random. At least two of the shootings occurred at Austin fire stations, a number happened at apartment complexes and some happened at homes. Most of the shootings occurred in South Austin and East Austin.

(2,084 posts)they probably won't be charged with anything, much less prosecuted.

Both of the miscreants are an imminent danger to society and should be charged as adults - but we know this won't happen.

(2,084 posts)His office will literally do anything to make sure every criminal in Travis county where Austin is located 1) doesn't get charged in the first place 2) has their charges dropped. He's horrible. Our police are literally doing nothing at this point because it's pointless (they're a mess, too, but the DA issue is adding gas to the fire) and while Austin is low crime in general, it's gotten so frustrating because the police basically do nothing now. And it's hard to blame them knowing anyone they arrest even for violent crime, will get let out by the DA.

(2,337 posts)if so, it sounds like that DA needs to be re-called and lose their job ASAP
What the hell DO they prosecute for in Austin if not for something like these crimes?

(17,245 posts)people still do get convicted of crimes here in Austin. I highly doubt these kids will be "let off" especially with highly public this event was.

(40,145 posts)Teenagers who allegedly planned or attempted mass shootings in Tennessee and Wisconsin and now Indiana shared a commonality: they were plugged into an online subculture that worships mass murderers.
The people in these communities share graphic material death, gore, hate, and abuse like any other form of entertainment and horrify each other on purpose. They treat violent criminals like movie stars and count corpses like high scores on an arcade game.
Thats nothing new. What makes this subculture different from the pre-social media shock sites that traded in similar material is not the content its the community formed around it.
Many of the cliques in this subculture are purposefully grotesque; others hide their venom behind false fronts or in-group speak so complex its own members liken it to a schizophrenic episode. Shockley appears to have made friends in one of the many true crime community groups, where people who idolize mass murderers disingenuously claim to be researching their crimes.
