World Cup outlook dims for hotels as international visitors fail to materialize

A report published Thursday warns that demand for hotels during this summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament may lag behind prior expectations.

The American Hotel & Lodging Association, based in Washington, D.C., released its FIFA World Cup 2026 Hotel Outlook, a market-by-market look at demand for hotel rooms in the tournament’s 11 U.S. host cities.

The report includes the results of an April survey of hotels in the host cities. The survey overall found that “anticipated demand has not translated into strong hotel bookings."

Around 80% of respondents reported that bookings have tracked below initial forecasts, according to the AHLA, which is the largest hotel association in the country and represents more than 30,000 members.

With the assholes who are running the country right now I don't blame them for wanting to stay away.

It sounds like Europe is going to run out of Jet fuel, making any available flight crazy expensive.

And other than Trump & Republicans, America is still a nice place to visit. The host cities are all liberal and diverse.

However, the reason demand is lower than expected: tickets are outrageously, ridiculously expensive. $2000 per seat for even group round games. They were bought up by bots instantly the day they were released. Even before the resale gouging started, FIFA set the cost sky high.

I know NO ONE who is going. At least the city is stopping road construction projects for 3 weeks...
