Unitary Prosecutorial Theory -- Tom Sullivan

https://digbysblog.net/2026/05/08/unitary-prosecutorial-theory/

What Bill of Rights?

The interview came after President Barack Obama told late night host Stephen Colbert that "the Attorney General is the people's lawyer. It's not the president's consigliere."

It's CBS News, so be forewarned:

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche denied to CBS News that the Justice Department is engaging in a retribution campaign against President Trump's adversaries, pushing back on criticism from former President Barack Obama -- but he argued Mr. Trump has vast power to oversee the agency.

Blanche pulled out a pocket Constitution and quoted from Article II to support the notion that it is within the president's authority to direct the AG to proseute whomever he pleases for whatever reason.

"Article Two says, 'the executive power shall be vested in the President of the United States of America.' It does not say that the Attorney General stands off to the side," Blanche said.

He noted that he is a member of Mr. Trump's Cabinet, and argued the president has the right to lead the country "in all areas," including on criminal justice.

Did anyone check to see if Blanche had ripped out the Bill of Rights? Blanche and Trump seem to believe Article II supercedes all of your guaranteed rights. But of course they would. They're as selective as Christian fundamentalists are in favoring Old Testament law over the red letters in the gospels.
