Tom Steyer's vile attacks on Democrat Xavie Becerra are illuminating

I just got a it piece in the mail from the Tom Steyer campaign for California governor attacking Javier Becarra. It’s vile. Clearly Steyer is a guy willing to do just about anything to get elected, even if it gives his Republican challengers in the jungle primary a better chance to win. I was hoping he was a principled Democratic billionaire on our side. I don’t think so any.more. I think he’s on his side and that’s all. He’s definitely not getting my vote.

I know that we here on DU have a rule about not bashing Democrats, especially Democratic candidates. In this case I think Steyer has to be called out. I wish he observed the rule. Run on strong policy positions. Bash the Republicans opponents. Don’t mail out hit pieces that could depress the vote for a decent Democratic candidate and give the other side a better chance at winning.

The lies sound BS and I don’t want an inexperienced in government governor again in my state. Arnold was a disaster!

Bianco 15 and Steyer 12.

That works for me.

A recent poll published Monday by the California Democratic Party found that Republican Steve Hilton, the British-born former Fox News commentator, and Democrat Xavier Becerra, the former state attorney general and health and human services secretary, are tied with 18% of likely voter support.

With less than a month until Election Day, it appears voters are becoming more decisive regarding their chosen candidates.

Trailing behind Hilton and Becerra is Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, with 15% of likely voter support, and Tom Steyer, the only billionaire candidate, with 12%. Former Rep. Katie Porter, who emerged as a leading candidate and was polling ahead of Becerra and Steyer in late February, now has 9% support; San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan, the most recent candidate to announce his run, has 7% support, which is steadily up since he joined the race in late January.

Not going to denigrate Democratic candidates here, but I'm just not excited about any of them.

Like many, I'm going to wait until the last week to see how it all shakes out before I cast my vote.

To give her a highly visible platform from which to remind the country what they could have had.

13. Here's what Steyer claims

Xavier Becerra was head of HHS from 2021 to 2025 under President Joe Biden. When unaccompanied children are apprehended after crossing the border they become the temporary charge of HHS. HHS finds sponsors for those kids, often family. Sponsors are vetted for suitability. Once the kids are released to the sponsors neither the sponsors or HHS is required to keep track of them.

The big headline in the four page Steyer flyer says, “Xavier Becerra lost track of 85,000 immigrant children as HHS Secretary.” It could as easily have said, “ Xavier Becarra as head of in four years HHS successfully placed 85,000 immigrant children with sponsors after they were apprehended crossing the border and incarcerated “. They weren’t lost. They just weren’t in the system any longer.

Unattributed pull quotes claim he was responsible for thousands of immigrant children being trafficked or abused. It’s nasty stuff, almost entirely unfounded and designed to dim Becerra’s shine with voters, particularly Latin Americans. Heck ,even the picture they use has been Willy Hortoned to give him a darker complexion and a thuggish look.

Suggesting your opponent is personally responsible for child abuse is pretty low and a long way from explaining why voters should choose you.

And especially hedge fund billionaires. Even those who look decent at first (I’m thinking of Jon Corzine) end up implicated in shady schemes. That’s their entire business. They’re mostly crooks and vultures.

I fear he’s going to take our CA tax dollars and funnel it to any business interests he’s friendly with. He’ll say he’s “investing in the future” in “green” energy companies, but he’ll find a way to profit. Meanwhile we’ll continue paying the highest gas and utility prices in the country. What does it matter to him? It’s not like he has to worry about the price of fuel for his private jets and helicopters.
