Percentage of African Americans by State:
Louisiana ~33%
South Carolina ~ 25%
Tennessee ~ 16%
But because of the recent Supreme Court decision, those states can (and will) redraw congressional districts to dilute the African American vote to deny them representation in Congress by an African American Representative.
33% of the population but denied any African American Congressman!!!???
Its not partisan gerrymandering, its racist gerrymandering.

(19,208 posts).... he was a younger lawyer. His dream to do this has finally come to fruition. He must be so happy and proud right now.
The power of the vote denied to no man.
The USSC says fuck than bullshit,...
American Fascists and racist think otherwise.
Their message,...
" Go eat shit,... and die."
With this ruling,... with the wave of their pen,...
The vote of Black people has been marginalized... once again.

(9,141 posts)I figured 'that is one helluva a racist piggy' so afraid that children in the US who needed families might be somehow 'tainted' back somewhere in their lineage.
He is beyond despicable. SCOTUS should not be populated with racists jurists.

(9,141 posts)From what I have read, millions of women will now need to pay the poll tax of getting passports to register, or change registration due to moving or changing parties. And Trump want's his picture on passports. To remind women that an adjudicated rapist is keeping his eye on them?

(6,631 posts)and these are the majority of the unserious people who make up the Republican Party.
And I would wager that among the people with passports, more are democrats.
So, just like the gerrymandering in Texas that will end up possibly backfiring on the Rs, this stunt stands to backfire as well.
Just my take on this.

(20,971 posts)And that might hold some weight. I imagine if African Americans were a reliable republican vote the maps would be much different and redrawn to cancel the working class blue collar suburbs. The AA vote can be seen as collateral damage in their quest for a permanent majority.
By the same token, republicans don't hate public schools and teachers for what they do, it's for where their union dues go.
Having said that, republicans are indeed racist now as they've ever been. Just look at Trump's cabinet, but for them it's party over everything.

(4,577 posts)... on the SCROTUS are blatant racists and Roberts is their Imperial Wizard. They defile every lofty principle to which this this country has ever aspired. Alito, Thomas, and Kavanaugh are the most obstreperous and belligerent in defending positions they know are indefensible.

(4,451 posts)The Supreme Court's majority members are facetious in claiming they are two separate things. And they only move with alacrity on matters such as this when it benefits white Republicans. Everything else gets slow-walked.

(19,208 posts)... to throw the midterm and 2028 elections to the exclusive favors of the American Fascist Republican Party and enhance, retain, and hold their majority powers into perpetuity.
The new day of eternal GOPee majority control is upon us. Just sit back, relax, and allow that new reality to wash over and comfort you.

(4,451 posts)everyone better realize there is no viable political solution to getting out of this mess, and that actions will need to become kinetic to get rid of the fascists.

(11,259 posts)This is an all-out street fight and our side is being hit over the head with bottles, rocks, bats and clubs...our response? Has anyone seen ANYONE get really freaking pissed off or consider fighting fire with fire? I'd settle for some fiery speeches and angry protests, but a press conference with nothing new or no strategy for undoing ALL of this on day one when returned to power is weakness made flesh.

(19,208 posts)Our cherished Status Quo & Quid Pro Quo are here to stabilize and ground us so we don't fly off the handle and do something rash.
Do not make a move unless something has been studied for decades, focus groups have hashed and then re-hashed, political consultants and political advisors behave gotten in a word in edge wise, many many letters of concern have been written, delivered, then responded to. Before you leap and jump to get something ,... or trying to get anything politically accomplished. The maintenance of the Status Quo demands everything must be done at a snails pace. Rushing into anything is ill advised and to be discouraged.
You young whipper snappers please just sit down and shut up. Your turn at manning the helm has not yet arrived,... be more patient.

(11,259 posts)The same thoughts and inspirations existed then as now...only FDR was bold and action based (and almost everything he tried was initially a failure to end the Depression on its own - it took WWII to do that), but he managed to change the minds of the public and made a country believe that it was possible to get out of the Great Depression at all.
Today, we are stuck in Trump's pending Depression and the leadership of the moment pales in comparison to FDR. We need a leader to arise and to shake this system apart from within... otherwise, I fear we are well and truly fucked...

(148 posts)It's my understanding that the Depression was on its way out by 1937. But many folks in Congress wanted to end FDR's policies, which they did and the Depression continued for another 3-4 years until gearing up for WWII finally completely dragged the country out of the Depression.

(4,134 posts)people of color are not genetically liberal. They vote Democratic because of how Republicans treat them. If Republicans treated them right, they wouldn't need to make disenfranchising them their primary purpose. They could do something useful with their power.
