Poll: How many times have you had to show an ID to enter a restaurant ?

Blanche: "There's a lot of things we can be doing, like voter ID. Every time you walk into a restaurant you have to show ID. How about you have to show your idea to vote? That's not anything that's crazy." { FREUDIAN SLIP! FREUDIAN SLIP! }

I've never shown ID to get into a Faculty Lounge or Dining Room. As a new student, I ordered a meal in a Faculty dining area without even knowing it. I guess I just looked mature for my age (snarf)*.

Thanks to Miles Archer for the link

*If you'd seen me at that age, you'd understand. Let's just say that puberty came late, slow, and damnably subtly for me.

Only wish someone would actually call them on it in real time. Maybe a reporter should try going into a restaurant and, you know, reporting

Only on Veterans Day do I need show ID to get the freebies. Applebees, Red Robin, TGIF, bloomin onion or what is it, Olive Garden, well it is understandable why ID is needed and I do not object whatsoever, it is within reason.
Other than that, no I have not to my recollection shown ID.
You say Freudian slip re ID vs idea, looks like an incorrect 'auto correct' to me, ha.

Some casinos (such as Circa) check your ID to ensure older than 21 to even get in to go to the restaurant. They scan your ID and they also scan your ID to get you free parking for locals.

I order alcohol, the ID is mandatory regardless that there is no way anyone could ever mistake me for being too young. I'm not 100 percent positive, but I'm pretty sure it's a law in my state. I don't often order alcohol though, so it's only on occasion.

But a normal restaurant - even a high end one?
No.
And though I've eaten at Hooters (once - did not have to show ID) I've never eaten at a strip club, and from what I understand, they check IDs there.

but NEVER to simply go to a restaurant. Just like I have NEVER had to show ID to simply
buy groceries. I have had to show it on occasion to buy wine in the grocery store, per a state law about alcohol and tobacco.

(* Which always cracks me up. As I show my ID, I point out, with a smile, that I am at least three, and possibly four or five (depending on the bar), times older than their oldest single malt.

although they did serve food, sort of. I was 65 at the time - they carded everyone who walked in, no exceptions. Good selection of local beers, though.

31. MaddowBlog-Blanche's AG audition gets weirder with comment about mandatory IDs at restaurants
Mon May 4, 2026, 08:00 PM
Monday

His claim that people need to show ID “every time you walk into a restaurant” was foolish, but it’s part of an effort to impress his audience of one.

https://www.ms.now/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/blanches-ag-audition-gets-weirder-with-comment-about-mandatory-ids-at-restaurants

During his latest appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Donald Trump’s former defense lawyer, who’s launched an unsubtle campaign to persuade the president to nominate him as former Attorney General Pam Bondi’s successor, argued that people should stop talking about Republican-appointed Supreme Court justices gutting the Voting Rights Act and start instead talking about voter ID.

Blanche: "There's a lot of things we can be doing, like voter ID. Every time you walk into a restaurant you have to show ID. How about you have to show your idea to vote? That's not anything that's crazy."

Aaron Rupar (@atrupar.com) 2026-05-03T14:36:31.270Z

...So, a few things.

First, treating the gutting of the Voting Rights Act as an inconvenience to be overlooked is ridiculous.

Second, I’ve been to plenty of restaurants, and I’ve never even heard of one that requires patrons to show identification at the door.

Third, the right to dine out is in no way comparable to the right to vote, as the acting attorney general really ought to understand.

But as important as these elements are, they’re not unfolding in a vacuum. Blanche is in the midst of an unannounced audition, which he’s trying nail through a series of unsubtle moves that include indicting people the president doesn’t like, advocating firing squads as a method of federal execution, releasing absurd reports critical of the Biden administration while gratuitously slamming Joe Biden himself, and intervening in support of Trump’s ballroom crusade.

So while the Republican lawyer’s “ID at restaurants” line was laughable, it wasn’t intended to persuade the public; it was intended to impress the president watching to see whether Blanche would embarrass himself in support of Trump’s agenda.

By all appearances, it’s working as intended. During an event with supporters on Friday afternoon, the president referred to Democratic officials in Minnesota, prompting someone in the crowd to shout, “Lock them up!” Trump added moments later, “Well, stranger things have happened, I’ll tell you. By the way, our attorney general is doing a very good job, isn’t he? Todd Blanche has done a very good job.”

Blanche is auditing to become trump's real AG or Blanche may get to stay as acting AG for the maximum time. Blanche is also working to make sure that he is disbarred just like Rudy, Eastman and 20+ other trump attorneys
