so, Louisiana unilateraly declared an emergency and suspended elections in progress (primaries). I do not see a huge uproar about that yet other than people like Marc Elias raising the alarm.
If Lousiana can do that now, despite the fact that they are not entitled to do so, what is stopping other states from doing that in November when they see the elections are going the way of the democrats?

Their terms in office are *time limited , without elections they no longer hold that office . In other words they dont just extend .

(8,817 posts)Even if their terms end, what happens if the legal fight gets stuck in the Supreme Court? do we have no congress until this is resolved, or does the court unlawfully say that the existing reps can stay until they decide the case?

(23,812 posts)They are going to redraw districts then hold their primary, followed by the general in November.
If elections were cancelled, then Louisiana would have no representation in congress starting January 2027. Other state positions would also be vacant.
So if red states want to cancel their elections, go right the fuck ahead- it would result in Dems having supermajorities where they could override Trumps vetoes and impeach and remove him from office.
Thats why they wont cancel their elections.
