Current Garden on the Gulf Coast

Canna Lily

Spider Lily

Day Lily

Easter Lilies, which have never bloomed at Easter

Daffodil, a miracle in this climate. But I tried them as a result of a spring trip to the NE Coast.

1. Daffodils are more or less annuals....I purchased a daffodil that was recommended for Central Florida

Only a handful bloomed and they never returned.

Paper whites may rebloom, if you plant them very deep. I grew some and they all bloomed, but only the stalks emerged for about 10 years. Someone said that they need to be planted deeply for the size of the bulb to increase.

Spider lillies and crinums are fun. I've been ordering crinums from Brent and Becky's because they're the cheapest source.

3. A visit to coastal MA, RI , and ME in May '24 and witnessing the tulips and daffodils inspired me.

I bought 40 daffodil bulbs and 10 tulip bulbs. Following the directions, I refrigerated them til the recommended time for planting. I had 6, less than spectacular tulip blooms and a couple of daffodil blooms.

No tulips came up this spring and only the one daffodil came back.

Some things are just not meant to be.

4. Well, you've got spider lillies and cannas. My cannas died here, but I think it's just too hot and dry in San Antonio.

We aren’t making it out of the 40s here in NE OH today and there’s a frost warning for tonight.

Your colorful blooms are beautiful!

My mother always had her flowers and blooming bushes around our large country yard and my father always had a huge vegetable garden.
He helped her care for the flowers, while grumbling that they were not edible but took as much work as his vegetables.
