1. 'How Political Violence Went Mainstream on the Right'

"Violence has been mainstreamed on the right. It’s effectively become another partisan tool for too many in the GOP....on the right, support for violence is no longer a fringe position...Those most likely to support violence on the right feel most connected to the Republican Party...This is not a marginal movement: It is people who see violence as a means to defend their values, an extension of their political activity."

For so long people were programmed to be very afraid of foreign Jihadist terrorists, while ignoring the very real homegrown terrorism right here.

I remember during the Bush years when they were selling terrorism every week - "Be afraid, very afraid, but be sure to go out and buy stuff." Whenever the administration was under attack, the color-coded alert levels went up and some new Bin Laden tape would suddenly surface.

I guess the problem is the far-right extremists can vote.

Similar tactic with trump and his "caravans of immigrants" coming toward the souther border refrain.

Oh, and let's not forget about how they're eating the cats and the dogs!

Villify at every turn is their strategy.

it's how cults start.

Years ago, I'd watch the odd documentary about a cult. And I'd think to myself, "These must be some truly gullible and desperate people to buy into this BS!"

Turns out it's 30% of Americans!!!

They've probably always been with us, but until Trump, there was no leader to unify them. Definitely sounds like how cults start.

because of the lame media who never challenges tRump with the truth. They never did it with the Obama birth certificate non-scandal and they don't do it when he says 'we've won the war' while still being there and the Strait still closed.

It's unchallenged insanity magnified by the media.

The stupid birther conspiracy could have been shut down in a minute considering Obama's mother was an American citizen, however I think I only heard one pundit mention that and only one time.

So many aren't even looking for the truth, they are just interested in ratings and screentime.

Those numbers are a bit unfair

Foriegn jihadis are in fact right wing extremists.
Anti abortion folk are in fact right wing extremists.

Thus bringing it to 82% and 91%, respectively.

They came up with it to deflect from all of their transgressions. They stuck with it because it works. They've successfully convinced many centrist types that "both sides need to take down the temperature" for example. And when you ask for a "both sides" example, the answer is usually a shrug.
