Jazz? Classical?
Couldn't figure which forum, so everyone enjoy this great composer and pianist.
Wikipedia:
Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington (April 29, 1899 May 24, 1974) was an American jazz pianist, composer, and leader of his eponymous jazz orchestra from 1924 through the rest of his life. Music critic Ralph J. Gleason called him "America's most important composer".

But it was Dukes birthday, not Satchmos.
So many great pieces, both jazz and semi-classical.
Music is Americas REAL SOUL.

(32,490 posts)4. I grew up listening to this music. Dad's hi-tech Magnavox with the t amp tubes that played his 78's,
Tommy Dorsey, Jack Teagarden, Benny Goodman, Gene Krupa. Eddie Congdon......I thought it was awful in the 60/70's.....but realized many years ago how wrong I was.

He loved some of those big bands. I don't remember him playing the sax often though.
Not like Johnny Hodges.
