(5,081 posts)1. I recall a case involving a plea bargain with a drastically reduced penalty for crimes such as those in this case.
It may have been this case, in which the original plea bargain called for no incarceration beyond the one day which the defendant had spent in jail following his arrest. The new plea bargain in this case calls for only thirty days of incarceration. The maximum penalty the defendant faced is life in prison.

Adam Hoffman, who faced life in prison without parole on charges he sexually abused his sons best friend for three years, pleaded guilty to two reduced charges Thursday in exchange for 30 days in jail.
judge doubled it to 60 days because of community protests.
The kid was 7-10 at the time and Hoffman said he would shoot him if he told anyone. Also he won't have to register as a sex offender. Crimes like this against children should not be pled out.
