Calling Trump a Tyrant Is Not a Call to Violence

I searched and didn't see this posted.

The article is important, yet I want you to look at the picture.

He looks like a corpse in this picture. There is no one there anymore.
He is dying, he has said as much. I think he knows the end is near.

Honestly, I think he wants to take the rest of us down with him.

Calling Trump a Tyrant Is Not a Call to Violence

Conservatives want to police how we talk about Trump—while excusing how the president talks about everyone else

Conservatives want to police how we talk about Trump—while excusing how the president talks about everyone else.

snip

Also on Sunday, CNN’s Dana Bash asked Representative Jamie Raskin to engage with the premise. “You and many of your fellow Democrats have used some heated rhetoric against the president,” she said. “Do you think twice about that when something like this happens?” And yesterday, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt charged, “Those who constantly falsely label and slander the president as a fascist, as a threat to democracy, and compare him to Hitler to score political points are fueling this kind of violence.”

This claim suffers three serious defects. First, it assumes that violence is the only logical response to an attempt to undermine democracy. In reality, Trump’s assault on democratic norms can be—and in fact, is being—successfully resisted through democratic means. In Hungary, Viktor Orbán had carried out a more advanced version of the same power-consolidation strategy that Trump is attempting now, and voters defeated him through peaceful organizing.

snip

The second problem with a moratorium on calling your opponent's authoritarian is that Trump himself routinely violates it. The president has spent a decade calling his rivals communists and traitors, among other hyperbolic insults. He has specifically claimed that Democrats rig elections as a matter of course. Taking violent steps to stop undemocratic political leaders follows much more closely from Trump’s rhetoric than from anything Democrats have said about him.

Caught a glimpse of him this a.m. with King Charles, on the tube (sound was muted).

His stroke, or series of strokes -- is very evident with the drooping of the right side of his face. I agree, his days are numbered.

This bears repeating:

“… He looks like a corpse in this picture. There is no one there anymore. He is dying, he has said as much. I think he knows the end is near.”

Holy Cow! It really does look like he doesn’t have long. Sheepish look on his face in that photo…

He is worse than a tyrant. I need my Roget's Thesaurus to find a synonym for "worse than a tyrant". Help. What is worse than being a "tyrant"? The Anti-Christ? Satanic?

The black and white photo is better than a color one. If I were to do it justice I'd paste big, red, fire flames all around him and stick a pitchfork in his hand. He IS Rosemary's big, fat whining baby! :evil frown:

And then didn’t.

Do you still teach BigmanPigman?

Last fall you posted a message from Indivisible’s Ezra Levine that I liked and there was a former Republican he was talking to. I remembered her yesterday.

Contemporary technology makes me think of this song:

Edit: Actually I saw that near the beginning of this implementation of the technosphere and it has aged well in a way.

Um. Brings to mind the first time I ever saw a U.S. president compared to Hitler.

Can still remember my shock at seeing two RWers with a table set up outside the post office, a portrait of Obama changed into Hitler and the words actually spelled out: "Obama = Hitler."

But do go on about how it's bad now, when it was apparently ok to do this to the first Black president (whom we really feared in our guts might be assassinated.)

Sure don't remember any pundits talking about it back then.

But that is only because many were the result of my getting goaded by noise pollution. Noise pollution that could be above the normal routine annoyance level irl.
