"Hold on. We the taxpayers are going to pay companies $900 million,

which is more than 6x what we spend on wind power R&D, to NOT build wind power at a time when electricity prices are spiking and we need more clean power?" -
@CostaSamaras

We will need a new word for corrupt, as these actions far exceed the meaning.

I like corrupidity (ha!). Don't forget straight up corruption and greed also. My guess is that it's support for extraction industries too. Feds just denied an request from Indiana to close a coal fired power plant.
Note that interior secretary Burgum's home state of North Dakota has the largest known lignite coal deposit, and is the second largest oil producer in the US. Just taking care of the home folk eh?

but those industries like to raise bloody hell about us having to give some subsidies^^ to fledgling alternate energy development

*tax breaks, legislation making it easier for those industries to take land very cheap for their own benefit, foreign labor laws to help those industries, grants and other financial incentives over the decades, plus the foreign policies and even wars fought on behalf of energy company interests. Lives, Treasure, and the environment sacrificed to Oil, Gas, Coal production.

^^ some short term tax breaks, some grants, damned little else to help

of a company in this manner? Do these companies have stock holders? If so, when was the meeting(s) held to approve this corp to accept govt money? If a corp accepts money from the govt it must be in furtherance of an intent stated in the Art of Inc . ..

We should have learned by now that we can't depend on Congress to police the unlawfulness of this regime.

... asking to borrow $50 to help her get through to pay day. She is struggling. So am I, but less so. I think she knows I would give her the money -- and would loan more, but she only borrows the smallest bit she needs because she doesn't want to run up a debt.

Anyway, no real point here, but the juxtaposition -- paying off corporations nearly a billion to UNDO beneficial projects against a sister who is so close to the wire, she can't afford basics week to week... A person for whom $50 fucking dollars is a lifeline...

It breaks my brain - and my heart.

Once again, those who can less afford the bills will have to pay back the debts plus the interests on the debts.

That's the Republicrooks way.

Republicans who were Republicans decried the notion of government making “winners and losers”. It rankled their sense of “fairness”, apparently.
Now, it’s all about who plays golf with you-know-who.

One thing to simply not make any further approvals but to pay money to get partially completed projects canceled is insane. The big use for wind power is that it tends to peak at times when the sun is less bright and they compliment each other well.
