And while Trump/MAGA has sued and blocked Virginia's approval of their own redistricting, mind you.

(21,266 posts)Because the redistricting borders drawn by to IDIOTS IN THE GOP have thrown no less than 10 districts that had been solidly red into TOSS UP status. The Texas delegation may actually pick up some Democratic representatives!
Let's not forget, hurricane season is between now and November. Will our grid hold up?
How much flooding will we have and how unprepared will we be this time? The body of one of the little girls who drowned last summer at Camp Mystic was never found. Her name was Cile Steward. She was 8 years old. Now her family is suing to prevent the camp from reopening. That's right. The family that owns the camp wants to REOPEN IT!

(8,713 posts)made even more tragic by the subsequent revelations that Kerr county had previously made multiple requests for funding that was ALREADY AVAILABLE (billions if I recall correctly) for stuff like early flood warning systems that undoubtedly would have saved lives, but Texas officials refused them.
Again, blood on their hands.

(21,266 posts)They didn't want warning sirens because "those things go off by accident all the time". They didn't want to distract their peaceful little area that was right in the middle of FLOOD ALLEY.
They also didn't want it because it was "Biden money".

"After the 1987 flood, river gauges were installed to provide real-time information to forecasters and emergency managers. But as the years passed, political will and funding for flood warning infrastructure diminished. An effort to get flood sirens never came to fruition; local governments were repeatedly passed over for grants by the state; and the county eliminated its own flood protection tax.

(8,713 posts)seems like this NPR article was saying that Texas officials had refused requests from local officials in Kerr county:

But seeing as you may be better informed as to the particulars, I'll defer to your input.

(21,266 posts)They had a flood in 1987 that killed 10 teenagers that were at a church camp. They knew the risk was there. They just kept kicking the can down the road and always had other priorities, including keeping property taxes as low as possible. Will they actually FINALLY do something? Now that over 100 people drowned?
It's been owned by a single family since 1937. 725 acres.
Many of the other counties that border the Guadalupe and other rivers have spent the money for better warning systems.
