Here they are: our two top Iran negotiators.

No diplomatic experience. In way over their head. Both with massive financial conflicts of interest, their fortunes tied to the Middle East dictators that make them rich.
What a disaster.

(6,733 posts)No offense to deer, but...these two look as though they realize they will go down in history forever linked to one of the biggest disasters in American history.
That's at least some solace for those of us disgusted by their selling the nation out for money.

(13,570 posts)There is no negotiation. There will never be a negotiation. There is no way out with the felon in the White House.
Unlike Greenland, where he could just walk away in the face of resistance, there is no walking away on Iran.
He is incapable of negotiating. He just bellows demands.
Those demands will never be met.
The only "out" is surrender and reparations -- and the attendant epic humiliation, which he will not allow.
The magnitude of the damage to this nation and the world done by his Iran insanity is beyond anything else he has done. And it will get much, much worse.
Republicans are in denial. They continue to tell themselves it will end and everything will just "snap back" to some sort of tolerable trumpian business as usual.
But that will NEVER happen as long as DT is in the White House. There is no out with him in power.
He IS the crisis.
The only way to end the crisis is if he leaves.
If enough of them wake up and see this reality we'll see an effort to push him out. A push to resign for "health reasons" or some face saving bullshit.
It is not outside the realm of possibility.
If that does come to pass, they'll find they left it too long. It's too late. Many Republican careers are over. The party can't "live down" this level of chaos and destruction. And they only have themselves to blame.

(22,501 posts)Tankers from East Asia that would normally load in the Persian Gulf are headed for the US Gulf coast to load US fracked light sweet crude. Similar to what they get from the Persian Gulf states and refine at home. That's caused regular container ships and bulk carriers to pay much higher transit fees or get bumped in the queue. That's also frazzled supply chains and will be felt from food products to toaster ovens in higher prices and possible shortages. In short, Donnie went and fucked it up for everyone. And I do mean everyone.
My partner and I the other day likened it to telling a kid not to touch the controls. If you don't know how it works, leave it the hell alone. Now we have an orange toddler madly pushing buttons and no one's willing to stop him.

(7,235 posts)... So You Want to Negotiate with Iran ... A bunch of demands on a PowerPoint slide wont cut it if the Trump administration plans to engage seriously with Tehran's Islamist regime.

(13,570 posts)Tragically, there is no one in this administration capable of contending with such pesky details or headaches like reality or history. And, even if there were such people, the felon-in-chief only thinks in terms of "my way or else" -- and at this juncture he doesn't even have a coherent notion of what either "my way" or the "or else" is.

(13,570 posts)... he'll engineer another payoff the Trump family and Kushner to effectively surrender and pay reparations.
But even with a ginormous bribe in that direction, I'm not sure the felon would suck up the humiliation.
I think that as long as he occupies the WH, his psychopathic malignant narcissism will continue to be the BIGGEST barrier to getting the U.S. the hell out of this insanity.
