The 4 most recent polls have Trump's approval number ranging from 32% to 36%. To those who say they can't believe it's that high, let me remind you that only 4 times in the past 80 years has a President been in the 20s. Truman, during the red scare in 1952. Nixon, during Watergate in 1974. Carter, during the fuel crisis in 1978. And Bush Jr. during the Great Recission in 2008.
The low 30's are only 3 or 4 points away from the 20s. That's really, really low for a President who is just down to his cult followers.

(1,921 posts)Democrats are looking pretty energized now. 2006 and 2018 are the more recent midterm elections where democrats excelled, since at that point in their terms both Bush and Trump had falling approval ratings.
Democrats picked up 31 seats in 2006 and 42 seats in 2018. On the other hand, Republicans gained over 60 seats in 2010 which was an absolute disaster.
The senate will be tougher but some races are looking even more encouraging. I think Dems gained 6 seats in 2006. Schumer, to his credit recruited some good candidates.
Bidens approval rating wasnt spectacular in 2022, but repealing Dobbs was a bit of a Black Swan event. Barring some major event, I dont see Trumps approval bumping up significantly before the midterms.

(77,023 posts)I could be pleasantly surprised to be wrong, but I think 25% are deranged and sees nothing he does as wrong.
Another 5% only care about low taxes. They got that & don't care about anything else.
So, he's only got 3% of the other 70%.

(10,016 posts)When Trump's numbers ultimately bottom out in the not-too-distant future, the bona-fide jerk component as a percentage of the U.S. population will be definitively revealed.
