For some reason, it's required to apply, even though I always vote by mail. This time, it's asking for my social security number. I'm not comfortable writing in on a paper that anyone in the election office can see. Why do they need it? They have my birthdate, and I've been voting here for 20 years. Is this part of the GOP obsession with voter fraud? What would you do? I'm really not comfortable with this. It's not as if my vote counts here (TN), but I'd still like to do it.
Update: yessirree, thanks to the bloated one, we need to submit our social security number to vote by mail. Thats one way to get us to stop voting. Im not willing to risk identity theft for a vote that wont matter anyway. This county is so fucked.

(15,107 posts)Writing your social security number on the application? Am I just being paranoid? (Identity theft, etc )

(462 posts)They send the application before each primary i believe. That was due to a law passed by the pa repubs. It asks for drivers license or state i.d. and last 4 digits of ss number. Also has provisions if u don't have a license. I would check to be sure that your application is legitimately from your state. Just google to see what they require. Other forms may be from companies mining for your info but just check your state website for requirements

(15,107 posts)They didnt just ask for the last 4, but the whole thing. I guard that number carefully.
The envelope and form look exactly like before except for this. Ill check the website, thanks.
