https://www.politico.com/news/2026/03/27/sheila-cherfilus-mccormick-guilty-ethics-00848019Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick illicitly funneled millions of dollars to her campaign and committed various campaign finance infractions, a bipartisan House Ethics subcommittee determined Friday likely laying the groundwork for a vote by the full legislative body to expel the embattled Florida Democrat.
The panels adjudicatory subcommittee, led by House Ethics Chair Michael Guest (R-Miss.), deliberated well past midnight following an hours-long hearing that served as the panels first public trial in nearly 16 years. It found clear and convincing evidence that Cherfilus-McCormick was guilty of all but two of the 27 counts that had been brought against her.
Shortly after the House returns from the April recess, the full Committee will hold a hearing to determine what, if any, sanction would be appropriate for the Committee to recommend, Guest and the panels top Democrat, Mark DeSaulnier of California, said in a joint statement.

(17,182 posts)And I am in the middle of a complaint so I have to be politically neutral going forward. And my complaint has nothing to do with electoral politics. I have to be careful and specific.
I use DU because it is the only platform I trust-specifically Skinner, EarlG, elad and DUers. (Of course much like everyone else I am beyond thrilled to have Yeller on board)..
But your post as an abstraction works Scrivener7.

(94,247 posts)...she wasn't able to present a defense, because, as her attorney pointed out, there's an ongoing federal prosecution effort.
This is a political judgment dressed up in legal language the congressional panel doesn't deserve, so 'guilty' is always going to be subjective, even if it's bipartisan.
