President Donald Trump ripped a reporter from a conservative-leaning network on Monday for asking him a question related to the Department of Homeland Security shutdown.
Trump lashed out at a reporter from Newsmax a typically pro-Trump TV network for asking him about his decision to deploy Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to U.S. airports. The Trump administration announced the move on Sunday amid the ongoing Department of Homeland Security shutdown that has caused massive security lines at airports across the country.
Who are you with? Trump asked the reporter. ... Newsmax, sir, the reporter responded. ... Youre not doing a very good job, Trump told him as the reporter began to ask another question. Youre not doing a good job. Did you hear me?
Trump then called on a CNN reporter instead. ... Can you believe it? Im taking CNN over Newsmax. Can you believe it? Trump said. ... Trump later quipped that he did not believe the Newsmax reporter will be at the network long.

(658 posts)Nj.com, is it that hard to quote the pertinent statements and questions that led up to the rip or blast? Without the actual text its hard to say if Trump was reacting to the content or the manner in which the question was asked. The rest of the exchange is quoted. I guess they got their clicks and the only info I got was that either Newsmax is starting to ask pointed questions or that Trump is still petty in his beefs with the press. If Newsmaxs reporting is drifting from restating Whitehorse talking points, that is news. If Trump is having a hypersensitive reaction to a mere statement about deploying ICE to airports when he seems elsewhere to be proud of that, that is also news. Of course, maybe he was just angered that his friends employee wasnt helping propagandize his message for the day and that is probably not news or at least new.
It seems that Mike Carter first said Mr. President, Iran's foreign ministry says you're not telling the truth when it comes to productive conversations. Trump responded, Well, theyre gonna have to get themselves better public relations people. Trump got testy and cut the reporter off after Carter prefaced his next question with Mr. President, you deployed ICE agents to American airports today. Ill leave it up to you whether Trumps retort You know, youre not doing a very good job is a rip or a blast or both. But if I got it right, it seems at least one reporter at Newsmax wasnt totally lofting softballs today. Isolated incident or trend? The way our various media sources interact with Trump is important, so I hope for more detailed retelling of both his kudos and adversarial exchanges in the future.
