Republicans' sweeping elections overhaul would impose strict new voting rules, potentially disenfranchising millions of

voters.

Republicans in the Senate are gearing up for what could be a lengthy and contentious debate over the SAVE Act, a GOP-led bill that would overhaul elections nationwide and potentially disenfranchise millions of voters.

The bill, which President Trump has insisted “supersedes everything else” on Congress’s agenda, was passed by the House of Representatives last month, but has been stalled in the Senate for weeks. Democrats have vowed to block it from moving forward, and Republican leaders in the chamber have so far balked at calls to change procedural rules to get around a Democratic filibuster.

The disconnect has put the president at odds with some of the most important members of his party on Capitol Hill. Last week, Trump said he would not sign any other legislation into law until the SAVE Act came to his desk. Several MAGA-aligned members of the House have also said they will try to sink any bills that come out of the Senate until the SAVE Act is passed.

Trump has also demanded that additional provisions be added to the bill, including a near-total ban on mail-in voting, new restrictions on medical care for transgender minors and a ban on transgender participation in sports.

They will NOT reach 60 votes for cloture.

They do NOT have the 50 votes needed to implement a "talking filibuster"

They do NOT have the 50 votes needed to nuke the filibuster completely.

So they are currently "gearing up" to put on a big show for the felon. Lots of speeches declaring their undying devotion to trump, with tears in their eyes. Days of "debate" ahead of a vote for cloture that will fail.
