The writing on the Wall: the future does not bode well for American Jews

You've got leftists and right wingers spouting Jew hatred. My estimation is that Tucker Carlson is kept around the Republican party so as to demonstrate to Israel that Trump can unleash Jew hatred in the US at anytime he wants. Antisemitism is on the rise. I've never before seen people openly talk about "The Joos run the world" before now. This does not bode well for my Jewish brothers and sisters. A war where the perception is that the US military and US citizens are dying in the Middle East prompted by Israel. Not good. The economy is in the shitter, people are losing healthcare, younger generation cant buy a home, people are losing their jobs, groceries are too costly. Government crack downs on civil liberties. If the US and global economy completely crashes who do you think is going to get the blame? It' s a tale as old as time itself.

"But what about those Jews..."
"I am not anti-Semitic, but..."

Pretty much it is as it has been. Though anti-Semitism rises and falls, I don't think we have seen the zenith yet.

Where you insisted that you'd NEVER seen anyone at DU support Netanyahu, even though that sentiment was common. Now you're claiming you see comments made at DU that to me are antisemitic. It's incredibly nasty to accuse other DUers of antisemitism, especially when it's based on their criticism of Israel. I saw some in another recent thread telling others that conflating Jews and Israel is antisemitic, yet that seems to have been ignored by some in this thread.

Anyway, waiting for links to those comments so I can see for myself.

Apologies for doubting you. I still think those lines BTA posted are examples of antisemitism, but in that post all I saw was extreme clumsiness. I've been at DU and mainly the I/P forum for a long time, and tbh some of the anti-Semites who've had short stays there don't tend to announce they're not antisemitic etc. they just get straight into spewing the nasty stuff.

This is going to be a YMMV thing, but after the Bondi massacre and clumsy attempts by the govt to deal with hate speech, I've come to the conclusion that there's an ickky-meter when it comes to recognising antisemitism. I know it when my meter pings and it acknowledges context and intent. But my background that calibrates the meter is very different to that of you or BTA, for example, so I'm not going to judge anyone on the Left for disagreeing with my take. If they're MAGats it's a whole.different story.

The issue is not that those terms are antisemitic, but as you said "clumsy." Any statement like "some of my best friends" is not helpful. People who use that type of comment are not necessarily racist/ antisemitic/bigoted, but kind of tone deaf. My particular problem with that post is the broad "hate" comment. It hinders dialog, and without dialog, we can't have peace.

Fervent zionists and the current Israeli government, not so much. The latter two are deeply despised. Where this becomes problematic is because zionists have spent the last few decades feverishly working on chaining zionism and Judaism together so that any critique of zionists could be shouted down with claims of anti-semitism. Most people still see the distinction, but it's certainly not as widely accepted as it used to be.

The American people and the Jewish community do not want this but people tend to lump blame. It’s easier than thinking and separating the bs. Unfortunately people are celebrating the bombing of Tel Aviv. We should not be celebrating destruction and murder in any country.

It's not the Jews per se. It's Bibi and ultra-Zionism, which is pretty much the same as Christian nationalism, except that for some reason Christian Nationalists seem to think that Jesus was Christian and not Jewish....

... are fueled primarily by a mix of monkey level ("where go me raspberry?" ) resentment, stupidity, and paranoia. So, yes, that's not good. There will be a lot of those things in our confused world.

Criticizing Israel is respectable. But they are a pluralistic, multi-ethnic democracy and an ally. Those things count big.

I have yet to see a Jewphobe or anti-Zionist who was up to even the most primitive form of rationality. They might as well not even try. Jewphobia is practically a litmus test for idiot or nut.

You might as well assume that. It's almost all Jewphobia, cloaked in risible rationalizations, propagated by monkey-hear-monkey-say ignorance, or simply cynical gaslighting and land greed.

It's almost always childish and primitive. It lacks an adult sensibility that makes for peace.

Being Jewish and being a Zionist are two completely different things. So, according to you academics are childish and primitive when they talk about anti-zionism, post-zionism etc? That's ridiculous and imo lazy thinking.

While there are clear incidents of the term Zionism being used in an antisemitic way (yes, I'm looking at you Iran an.anyone who uses the term 'zionist entity'), a broad brush can't be used to paint anyone who utters the words Zionist or antizionist as antisemitic.

...sophistry, grifting, vanity, paranoia, resentment, self-gaslighting...in my experience. If the world were represented by the typical visitors to libraries, then there would be rationality here. The vast majority of people who think they are anti-Zionists (or want to think it...or want others to) are posers and worse...in my experience. Ymmv

and have seen and experienced anti-semitism my entire life. It has been around for 6,000 years and has never abated. We are everyone’s scapegoat.

Even though he surrounds himself with Jews, Trump is an anti-Semite. As was Nixon who always had Kissinger by his side.

I think you need to be Jewish to really understand antisemitism just as you have to be a person of color to really understand racism.

You’re creating confusion .

I’ve NOT heard one leftie spread hate about people who are Jewish anywhere!

We the people want peace. It’s the Israeli Government that has created the chaos, not people of Israel or Jewish people around the globe.

So stop conflating the war criminal Netanyahu with the anger about the bombing of Iran AGAIN.
