Excursions vs. Excursions
Excursions (1)
I was on a bus tour of part of Europe in the 1980s. At several stops, we were offered rides to landmarks and places to visit. They were "Excursions." Sometimes they were free and sometimes there was an additional fee that was not included in the cost of the overall tour. Those excursions were engaging and often very educational for those who took part in them. "Excursions" were very popular with the participants of the tour.
Excursions (2)
The military of any country sometimes has excursions as well. They are not interesting visits to a place to learn more about it. Instead they are sharply focused armed actions against specific targets. People die, often including innocent parties like schoolgirls caught, well, going to school when the school got destroyed by missiles. Unfortunate results are often consequences of such "Excursions." Stuff happens, you see duing wars. I mean to say, during excursions.
Differentiation between Excursions.
It's important to remember that the same word can mean different things, and words that seem like nice ideas in one setting can be ugly and destructive in some other setting. What you call something can alter an audiences feelings about that thing in unexpected ways. If an army goes on an Excursion, the outcome is unlikely to be pleasant. Context matters.
