Around here the bugs and moles eat below ground, the deer and bugs and birds eat above ground. Tomatoes and string beans my only crops. Chives all died last year. All of them, some growing for decades.

Also, I hate cruciferous vegetables and the weird root vegetables like turnips. If I could grow corn and green beans that would be great but I can't.

i keep several kinds growing in containers all summer.

I've got some plants started under lights in the house, though, so when it does get a bit warmer, I'll be ready to go. Winter lettuce at the store is too expensive and not reliably fresh.
