MI-SEN: In a contentious primary, McMorrow says roadtripping campaign style is moving her ahead
For McMorrows rivals, their collective campaign stops have focused heavily on policy, community building, and the same type of photo opportunities McMorrow took at Kellys on Tuesday.
But the state senator from Royal Oak appears to be more focused on meeting people face-to-face, in low key settings where they feel most comfortable.
Speaking to the Michigan Advance and other reporters, McMorrow said it was important for her, at this stage in the race, to show likely voters that shes a real person, someone who understands their frustrations and not just another politician looking for a promotion in Congress.
This is about building relationships, and people want to know and trust the person that theyre sending to Washington, McMorrow said. I want to serve with you as your next senator, not for you. Im not going to come in and lecture you about 30 different ideas that I think are best for you. I want you to tell me. And every policy proposal weve rolled out so far has come out of these events with people sharing an idea or conversation. We pick up trends, and then we roll out policies.
