This was a very contentious race. Casin wrote a series of ugly posts some time ago, which included ‘the n word’ among other things. Governor Spanberger and other local politicians called for Casin to resign, but he did not. That, in turn, engendered the write-in campaign. I guess this sort of thing could happen anywhere, but this was not a normal situation. Plus the local population is not historically progressive.

Are there even more of these types of candidates out there? Is there some kind of push to find problematic, highly offensive men and have them run for Democratic seats?

And that both beat Susan Collins.

So, I'm not terribly concerned. I'm not in Maine so the sole element of my calculus is electability.
