Russia's revealing Trump just called Putin for advice on Iran

Olga Lautman @OlgaNYC1211 2h
Russian media is reporting that Trump called Putin to discuss Iran, Venezuela, and Ukraine. And they make sure to repeat several times that it was Trump who made the call

MOSCOW, March 9 (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a telephone conversation on Monday with U.S. President Donald Trump, put forward proposals for a quick ‌settlement of the conflict around Iran, Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov said.

He described the entire discussion as "very substantial" and said it would "likely have practical significance for further work between the two countries".

Ushakov said Putin "expressed several thoughts aimed at a quick political and diplomatic end to the Iranian conflict, including contacts that have taken place with leaders of Gulf states, the president of Iran and leaders of other countries".

He said Trump "offered his assessment of developments ‌in the U.S.-Israeli operation. Let me say that a very substantial and, without doubt, useful exchange of ideas took place."

"Trump called Putin to discuss a number of extremely important topics related to the development of the international situation. The emphasis was placed on the situation around Iran and on the negotiations on Ukraine. Putin and Trump also discussed the situation on the oil market. I will say right away that the conversation was businesslike, frank and constructive, as it usually happens in a dialogue between Russian and American leaders. They haven't talked on the phone for a long time, the last time was in December 2025," Ushakov said, quoted by Pool No. 3.

...Trump chumming around with Putin, asking his advice, conferring with everyone on his Iran war but the American people.

No word from him yet on whether he asked Putin about this...

10. Picnic Excursion

A spokesman declared with conviction,
“Those tankers aren’t aiding eviction.
That oil’s just at sea—
Not profit, you see—
So Russia receives no benediction.”

Said Scott Bessent while chatting on air,
“There’s crude floating harmlessly there.
Let India buy—
No benefit, why—
It’s simply… relieving despair.”

But Larry Kudlow looked doubtful and grim,
As the argument drifted quite slim.
“If barrels bring cash,
Then sanctions might crash—
And Moscow’s advantage grows trim.”

Soon others repeated the tale,
Each spokesman reciting the grail.
Said Chris Wright with a nod,
And Mike Waltz approved God—
“That oil rewards no one at sale.”

While Volodymyr Zelenskyy fought hard to defend,
And allies stretched aid to extend,
Donald Trump rang the line
Of Vladimir Putin to opine—
“Perhaps we should partner again.”

The Kremlin described it with pride:
“That Trump was the one who had dialed.
He seeks peace, it’s clear—
Bring Ukraine over here—
A settlement Putin would guide.”

Said Putin, “Our armies advance!”
Though facts gave that boast little chance.
For Ukraine, in truth,
Had recovered some proof
That Moscow’s success was romance.

But markets were roiling with dread
As oil routes near Hormuz had bled.
And sanctions looked thin
When the barrels rolled in—
A windfall for Russia instead.

At last came the briefing that night,
When trading was safely out of sight.
Said Trump with a grin,
“This war we’re all in—
Just a picnic excursion, all right.”
