But when Hagen Daz was having a major hissy fit about the existence of Ben and Jerry's, they forced a choice. If a store stocked B&Js, they would not be supplied with HD. Every store had to make a choice.

Distribution is everything. As I recall it's like winning a lottery to be stocked. If you're in, you stay in. There's only so much shelf/freezer space.

Now it is the wild west as far as advertising, and deceptive trade practices........I see print ads and TV ads that are flagrant false advertising, with many of the other regulations trampled all over.......
I think it is a fair statement that the Republican Politicians are the best politcians, corporate money can, and has bought.

I have been buying quite a bit there the past few months,
depending on the item--- trying to stock up on canned goods and other non-perishables,
before my SNAP gets cut off after this month---

Have to say this makes it less likely that I will continue to buy much there...
After this month, I will limit myself to "bread, milk, eggs and cheese" as much as possible
for the following 21 months until I turn 65 and re-qualify for SNAP

We may not have SNAP in a few months, forget 21!

so trips to any such places have been completely out of the question,
and there is no real need for such right now...

(I could have gotten it back on the road, but didn't yet,
because the requirement to do some walking seemed to
dramatically improve my physical well-being!)

My 'food stockpile' is pretty large at present---
but I worry about where I may be at the end of the year!

It'll be shelf-stable for a year. Dilute 1:1 to replace regular milk for cooking. (Don't try drinking it, it's nasty for that.)

I'm not much of a 'milk drinker', but I do like it with pancakes! which I rarely cook....


However, I do prefer it with cream soups which suggest
either milk or water to be added!

Otherwise.... I struggle to use up those half-gallons of milk before they go bad!

(Shredded cheeses seem a better investment since they can be frozen---
especially when I will use them cooked afterwards!
but a few cans of evaporated milk is also a great idea! Thanks)

And do not forget, you can used soured milk in mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, mac and cheese. . .

and have thought about it already...

Living out in the country- I always have milk in the freezer. It does take hrs to defrost thought.

was 1.99 on sale, $3.50 on sale today. Half and half for my coffee went from $2.69/qt to $3.29. salmon side on sale $5.99 then, on sale 10.99 last week. reg price went from 9.99 to 14.99 for same. The extra virgin olive oil I prefer went from 14.99/liter to 20.99/liter (thank Goddess for Costco, where it is 16.99 for a two-pack! And where one can get a 3# rotisserie chicken for $5, which gives me 6-8 servings, including stock from the carcass for soup). Bonelesss/skinless chicken breast from the butcher counter went from 2.99/lb to 4.99. Cat litter from 6.99/20 lb to 8.49.

Just a few examples. And I am a fairly frugal shopper, loyalty cards, digital and paper coupons, markdowns, sales, and very little in the way of prepared, convenience, etc. And it is just my kitty and me. And we have grocery outlets as well.

It pisses me off when I hear some ridiculous figure like 2% rise. BS. DO NOT try to tell that to someone who keeps the prices in her head. I shudder to think what the bills will look like now.

It always means one thing ... as soon as the sale over, like next week ... the price will be up another 20% . It has happened over and over with coffee, chocolate, and a multitude of other items. Sure I can stock up at the sale price, but they won't last forever in my pantry. Then I have to buy them again at the higher prices. Rinse and repeat.

Groceries have skyrocketed in the last 6 weeks. Prior to that it was a steady increase like boiling frogs.

folks have turned on trump. (Not me since I never supported him.) He ran on bringing prices down. Now they know he doesn't know what he is doing.

No more steak and baked potatoes or pot roast etc. now one chicken breast gives me 2 to 3 meals. 😕

Walmart does not sell products cheap.

Not itemization, just prices. Got about 20 items . Most were under a dollar.

you know what it cost me? $7.99 for one medium-sized crown. Everything is so expensive. They had a promo going on for the typical St. Patrick's Day corn beef dinner ingredients. The only part of it that was reasonably priced was the cabbage. I settled for a smaller than usual corned beef so no leftover hash. I'm not paying $30 for corned beef.

I am going to cook Liver and call it T%$#p steak or Freedom Steak.

As a consumer and wholesale buyer, the inflationary figures this entire century haven’t quite aligned with my experience. I know the prices of clothing, appliances and other tech have helped by having relatively stable or even deflationary pricing, but between housing, medical, and food my monthly expenditures have risen more than the CPI index would suggest. I have no reason to believe my anecdotal experience is closer to the truth than the CPI index, but believing the numbers while grocery shopping, buying a car or house, or paying my medical insurance causes me some cognitive dissonance.
